Smizzy
Patriots | Team will take best player available in draft Wed, 21 Mar 2007 19:44:51 -0700 John Tomase, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the New England Patriots will take the best available player in this year's draft. One name they might consider in the first round is Central Michigan OT Joe Staley, who had a great Pro Day and fits the Patriots' mold in a number of ways. He'd fit right into their system and could possibly challenge OT Matt Light at left tackle down the road. Another player they might be interested in is Rutgers RB Brian Leonard, who shifted to fullback this year and is a complete player, with good blocking and receiving skills. Alk
Wow, this guy is good, he was able to pry this out of the Pats. Oh what's that? He's a typical reporter just spewing $hit? That makes more sense...

124
Teams like New England who are Super Bowl contenders before the draft begins can afford to pick the best player there at 24 and 28. That being said, look for Patrick Willis to suit up in New England and be the eventual replacement for Mike Vrabel or Tedy Bruschi. The other pick could very well be Reggie Nelson or Brendan Merriweather (both Safety's).

faba
Best player available? Wow. That is some in-depth reporting. I was going to be sarcastic but you beat me to it. What do you expect them or any team to pick?
Alk
I am very confident that when all is said and done and the Patriots have made their pick, none of the "experts" will be saying the Patriots took the best player available.
