Hey Now

I'm just doing a relatively brief report tonite; it's been a long, hot day.

Of course, E. Smith and J. Miller did not practice.

The team was in shorts and shells, and practiced under the lights on the field in front of the bleachers.

Practice ran until about 8:45, and there was no hitting going on, other than some individual unit drills off to the side on the other field.

They practiced KOs and punt/punt returns. Westhoff was on fire again, and got in Harris' face again, though not as severely as he did the other day.

Most of Nuge's kicks made it to the 5 or goal line, though one was pretty short. Graham surprised everyone when he shanked one, but otherwise he kicked well tonite again.

There was a run-through of plays by the first and second team offense that looked like the plays they will run friday, and i am not going to describe them in great detail.

The routine changed somewhat tonite, as some players donned green jerseys with gold numbers or white jerseys with red numbers, signifying their scout team responsibilities. It looks like they are anticipating Atlanta running pitch out plays to the RBs, and also some wide open passing offense that Petrino's L'ville teams showed when he coached in the college ranks.

Tui QB'd the scout team, and Danny Ware looked very good running on the scout team.

-It was not an intense practice compared to a few others I have seen, but it looked like a lot was accomplished to get the team ready for Friday.

Random notes

-Rookie DB James Ihedigbo (44) had two picks tonite; one on Tui and one on Clemens.

-Dyson had a pick vs Chad in the 11s, and his coverage against Cotch looked better than it has. Maybe he is getting healthier.

-TJ continues to look good, and seems to be hitting the hole without any of the dancing that he has been known to do.

-Leon looks awesome. Quick, fast, sure handed on the punts and KOs too.

-Stuckey had a good practice and made a couple of really nice receptions. He beat manny Collins for one that went for a long TD.

-Dominic Moran (59) getting some extensive reps at right guard on the second unit tonite.

-Collins, wearing 35, saw a lot of action tonite, on ST and as a CB.

-The first team ran some goal line offense against the first team D, which showed a stacked front that included both D-Rob and Pouha at DTs, side by side. Thumper FB Darian Barnes showed he can hit the hole quickly and powerfully on a short shortage run.

-Alvin Banks continues to run impressively imo.

-A lot of guys were being rotated in and out, and with the scout jerseys it was harder to keep track of who was doing what. But everyone was kept on their toes by the CS, in spite of there being no real hitting going on out there.

-greengal was there! It was milf heaven tonite, and gg will have some pics to prove it that she will post after she gets home.

-Juan Wong was there, too!

Thanks again, JC. Great job again.

Who's returning punts? Leon Washington?

And how do they look catching those punts?

Leon took the lion's share of PRs tonite and he looked awesome.

Smith takes some KOs and he looks good there, too.

I am not impressed with Smith as a QB, though, but I like the package they put in with him for certain situations.

You are a freakin machine, Jetcane. I found this both interesting, and long overdue:

The first team ran some goal line offense against the first team D, which showed a stacked front that included both D-Rob and Pouha at DTs, side by side. Thumper FB Darian Barnes showed he can hit the hole quickly and powerfully on a short shortage run.

I like the idea of Pouha at slant nose and DRob at 3T more and more. I think there is a real chance that at some point this season, we may see a lot of 4-3 with these two in the middle... or at least I hope so, because if we DO see it, it will be because it's working. We may have the most chameleon (sp?) defense in the NFL this year, if things continue to progress as they have so far. Some SD 3-4, some Parcells 3-4, some 4-3.... I think we have the bodies to make it work.

Come hell er high water, I'm going to tomorrow's am session.

Good report but Ihedigbo's INTS were off of KC and Tui, not Chad. Also, what was up with those scout jerseys with the wrong numbers? I couldnt tell who was doing what for a while there.

I think tomorrow's practice is closed, T-Bird, so you can sleep in.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. No problemo. The milfs were very distracting tonite.

Tomorrow is a walkthru and is closed. Tonite was the last practice before the game.

Wow! You guys (Jetcane, Ganggreenman and others) who write up these TC reports are great! I just got back from tonight's practice and I had to read your reports to make sense of it all. Those scout jerseys with different colored numbers on them that kept getting passed around to different players really had me confused. I didn't know who was in them most of the time! Thanks for explaing it Jetcane.

Did it seem to you like this practise was more for the 2nd and 3rd stringers than normal? It seemed like guys like Schlegel, Manny Collins, Nick Smith, Cavka and JUAN WONG were out there an awful lot. Alvin Banks did look good. Stuckey is the real deal!

You're welcome!

Yep, I think you're correct, and I noticed it, too. A lot of the 2d and 3rd teamers are going to see action Friday night, and it makes sense that they would be getting a good number of reps tonite.

Thanks for the work you put in. TBird always did his share of good TC write-ups in days past. I used to enjoy them. Hard to believe after all this waiting that the season is finally upon us. What a cr*ppy summer this has been. In some ways, worse than last summer, so I'm looking forward to this almost more than usual.

I'd always get pumped no matter how bleak I knew our situation was in reality. But that was in years past, and this is now. Again, even if we go worse on paper than shaky expectations, I can't imagine the season will be "worse" than our record actually reflects. I can't verbalize it properly, but I know what I mean. I do, as a side-note, hope this Revis situation gets resolved soon. We'll see.

Just read Tom Rocks blog...Apparently those pinnies were Falcon 'scout' jerseys and theyre purpose was to prepare the team by having players with similar skill sets wear the no. the opposing player will wear...

Yes, that = scout team players.

Last year, at TC, I came away thinking that Brad Smith was a star in the making. After watching tonight's practice I'm wondering what kind of player he will be. It seemed pretty obvious that the 1st team WR's are LC, Cotch and J Mac. The up and comer is Stuckey. Where does Smith fit in? I don't think he can be somebody special as a QB, but he's got so much talent. He should be making a big impact on this team and I just didn't see it tonight. What are we going to see from him this season and years to come?

Its possible if we teach him to play DB that he'll be in every down.:)

Those do-all, slash guys never seem to last long. They make a splash for a year or two or more sometimes, then they're gone. Instead of slash players maybe we should call them splash players!
