Parting Shots

1) How is that fans are criticizing Thomas Jones when he has next to nowhere to run? The running back is only as good as the line in front of him and it is no secret the Jets O Line is clearly struggling.

2) Is it me or have the Jets completely changed Kerry Rhodes role in the defense?

3) It is humorous to hear Herman Edwards rave about Cotchery, when he got next to no playing time under his regime.

4) At what point do the Jets start to worry about D

Another game and another loss for the New York Jets. Heading into this week’s match-up with the Miami Dolphins, Gang Green is faced with a must win situation if there is any thought of making the playoffs. Yes a must win situation in week three. It is a conference game as well as a division game which has importance when it comes down to tiebreakers.

The biggest problem with this team is that it lacks an identity. The Jets are not a physical team, they are not a finesse team, nor are they a dominant defensive team or a powerful offensive team. They are a team that is truly trying to find itself and come up with ways to win a game. It is surprising that the Jets are in this situation especially coming off a playoff appearance last year, but there is currently no true strength on this team. The Jets offensive and defensive lines are continuously losing the battles in the trenches, which sets the whole team back in terms of establishing any type of game plan.

So where do the Jets go from here? It has been said many times in the past that sometimes you have to get worse before you can get better, is that the case for this year?

My personal opinion is that you play for each year and not for next year. You do whatever it takes each week to win even if that means looking outside the box and taking some risks. Coach Mangini and his staff showed some creativity last year and this trend should continue this year. How about going 4 or 5 wide with a no huddle offense? How about giving Brad Smith some chances to shake things up? Why not send Kerry Rhodes and Jonathan Vilma on blitzes from a variety of angles? How about incorporating more blitz packages for the corners? The NFL is about winning and if you need to scrap you playbook and philosophies to do so, so be it. There are no guarantees in the NFL and I am not willing to continue to watch conservative game plans that are playing to not lose instead of win.

I love your post! It was well written and said it all for me. I hate the fact that we have no identity or physical presence. Sunday, our OG Clarke took no prisoners and dumped Ngata twice right on his butt! He is coming along as he gains experience. In fact, the whole OL is lacking experience and consistency. It is coming. along though I am worried about BRICK. He is still getting beat to the inside as if he was a rookie. On the outside, he merely lunges at opponents. Is our OL coach up to the job?

The Parting shots:

1- TJ is not a scatback runner. He is also not running angrily as he did in Chicago. He needs a mauling OL in front of him to return to form! BUT why NEON LEON was not given the ball against the RAVENS is sickening. Kellen did what he did withour a run game! IMO that makes it even more impressive.

I am very concerned about RHODES. He is playing and thinking rather then reacting! He suddenly lacks suddeness and intensity. ERIC is supposed to be a secondary guru. Show me?

Cotchery is a great player. Imagine him playing alonside a WR with great speed that must be double teamed. He will be devastating! Especially with a QB that can open it up- deep!

BRIC is a major concern. He is not physical, aggressive and certinly not a Jonathan Ogden or Orlando Pace. He is rapidly looking like Gallery. All hype but no go! He was average on Sunday. He was beat a few times for a sack and several pressures. I am starting to question the ability of our OL coach. Why do we have to bring in LOMAS BROWN to tutor BRICK?

As stated: The OL will get better as it gains consistency via playing together! BRICK is a major concern but lets face it, he has been playing with revolving door OGs next to him. Now CLARKE has sealed the deal and consistency should develop. If BRICK still struggles, maybe we have to bring in a hold-the-fort OT to replace him until we acquire another LT. We can not afford to watch Chad or Kellen get creamed many times because of BRICK.

I agree with most of it (and the comment about changing the #81 jersey). Well written.

On the parting shots:

1) agree 100%

2) Seems to me the whole D is playing different this year. And not for the better.

3) everything that herm says is funny. Since he's coaching another team now.

4) While dumping on Brick is all the rage around here, I'm not going to label a 23 year old OL, just starting his second year in the NFL, as a bust. Not while he's still a starter. Not while he's no worse than the rest of the scrubs on that line (Mangold excluded). Fix the other positions and he'll look a lot better.
