Jets Look at 3 during Tuesday Senior Bowl Practice

Cherlius would be a solid pick-up in the 2nd round for Right Tackle. Now, with Jacob Bender on the roster the Jets might not be willing to take a RT on Day 1, but if Cherlius impresses them enough, I don't think you can pass him up just because of a former D-II 6th round draft pick.

And hey, not for nothing, but he's a Boston College Offensive Lineman and BC is OLine U.

Matt Forte sounds like he could be a decent goal line option to pickup in the later rounds, a power runner with fullback potential.

It sure sounded like it, but from what i've seen of the practices he has shown some great power, catching out of the backfield and vision. However, it seems that a lot of teams have noticed this, as he was singled out by a few of the scouts and probably will be taken earlier than i originally thought.

For fullback, it will be important to keep an eye on owen schmitt who looked like he got pretty banged up. It could potentially lower his stock if he's not able to showcase his talent in the senior bowl; and even though he hasn't mentioned much about signing a FB, mangini did go for darien barnes this year, so who knows.

I heard Sedrick Ellis was grabbing a lot of attention from Bradway. As in, we were giving him very serious consideration.

Some say he would be large enough to handle the nose.

Any insight from practice attendees?

I think this is more for covering the bases in case any other prospects they are looking at are picked ahead of them, and also if they cant trade down.

As for Ellis, it sounds to me like he is more of a 34 LB than lineman, but he maybe too big for that. He is a bad fit for our D in my opinion, but I could be wrong.

The way I read it, Ellis weighed in around 310, and at just under 6'1. Apparently he was completely unblockable.... and while most scouting reports will say he's a three-technique; if his stregth alone can command a double-team (and I've read reports of 500+ bench press) he might fit into someone's 3-4 at NT.

I'm just repeating information... but most of the pro-bowl NTs were drafted no heavier than 315; the added weight was gained in the NFL.

As for OLB?!

Not a chance. Too short, too heavy, and no where in his illustrious career did he play standing-up. He is a protoypical DT. The fact that he's getting consideration as a NT has me scratching my head; I was wondering if anyone saw anything first hand.

The 285lb listing was from draftcountdown, no? They also claim that he has maxed out his frame (at 285), which is clearly nonsense because this week he was weighed in at 308 and measured at 6008, (a hair under 6'1).

Apparently he's having one hell of a week because he's shot up a lot of recently updated mocks. "Walterfootball" says he's solidified a top-five position in this draft.

on edit:

A poster on this thread points out the similarities to Drob with the difference being Ellis' strength. He has benched 500+, and LAST YEAR threw up 41 reps (of 225) to Drob's 30. Maybe combine time will see an increase. Point is, he is only 12 lbs away from being a respectable 320; he holds his weight low and with good leverage; and can grow into a Wilfork/Hampton like player.

Yeah it seems Ellis has put a real effort into bulking up. If he does indeed put on enough weight theb maybe I wouldn't mind us selecting him.
