Even after their point man in the proposed trade for Dewayne Robertson was dismissed, the Broncos remain interested in acquiring the defensive tackle.

Broncos' general manager Ted Sundquist had been working with the New York Jets on the proposed deal until he was fired Wednesday by executive vice president Mike Shanahan. The team's interest in Robertson, however, remains.

The Broncos have been working with agent Hadley Engelhard on reconstructing Robertson's enormous contract and with the Jets on draft-pick compensation. The teams have discussed swapping midround draft picks in 2008 along with the Jets receiving a conditional draft pick for 2009.

Can't we just cut tihs c*cksucker? A swap of mid-round picks doesn't seem like such a great deal to me especialy since the Broncos will probably have a better record than us next year.

If we cut him he sill counts towards our cap, if we trade him, even if no value, it does'nt count!

No, this is dead wrong.

Whether we cut or trade him, he'll still count against the cap.

I believe, but not 100% certain, that this is the last yr of his contract. If it is, then there is absolutely no difference between cutting him or trading him.

Now if it is NOT his last yr, then if we trade him now, we have to take the entire cap hit now. If we trade him after June 1, we could split the cap hit. If we cut him, even right now, if we wish, we can split the cap hit....

It seems like we are getting really nothing back in return for him. You might as well keep him and see if he can help out on the de rotation.

Generally I'd say you're right, but 12M is waaay to much to pay a guy for DE depth.

Also, he becomes a FA next offseason, so at least by trading him we free up some cap for this year, and get something in return next yr. Granted a compensatory - probably 6th rd pick isnt much, but it beats nothing.

Well we're not getting rid of his full $12M no matter what we do.

Look at it this way: in round #'s, we have $4M of bonus money we already paid to him that hasn't come off the cap yet. It's scheduled to come off as $2M this year & $2M next year (in addition to scheduled salaries & future bonuses). So we wipe out all of his salary (and June 1 roster bonus) of $10M by cutting or trading him. Only thing to determine is whether we still take that $4M as $2M in '08/$2M in '09, or if we eat the whole $4M in '08 (leaving 2009 DRob-free).

Wait, is he under contract into the 09 season, or is 08 his contract year?

I understand we cant get rid of all 12M, but of we could get rid of part of it and get a late rd pick in return, its better then keeping all of it to have him sit on the bench and walk for nothing at the end of his contract.
