Bob
Good move by the Yanks. http://wcbstv.com/local/yankees.brian.cashman.2.829553.html Yankees Give GM Cashman 3-Year Extension NEW YORK (AP) ― Brian Cashman is staying on as general manager of the New York Yankees, agreeing to a three-year contract that runs through 2011. The Yankees missed the playoffs this season for the first time since 1993. Cashman took over as GM in 1997 and his current deal was set to expire at the end of October. The move Tuesday was expected, though there had been rumblings that Cashman might be interested in running another club. Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner told Cashman earlier this season that the team wanted him back.
Lil Bit Special
The only job he would have wanted was Philly and they made the playoffs so they arent canning their GM. Hope he can get this team turned around and back in the playoffs next year...

Ruben Amaro Jr is being groomed for that position.

He announced it before the season. Hope he can get this team turned around and back in the playoffs next year... Well, you'll be hoping that for about three years. He has overseen the destruction of Stick Michaels' dynasty. Sure, some of those deals weren't his fault, like Sheffield, but Sheff wasn't too bad. Cashman's dealngs include: - Pavano - Wright - Giamboid - Kei Igawa This year we had pitching injuries. CC Sabathia was available and Cash didn't make a move. Cashman must give a mean BJ, because I can't see why else the Steinbrenners would like him.

He has had the most resources to work with by far out of any GM, and the results have not met expectations. Cashman's biggest problems have been with pitching. His record with starting pitchers is atrocious. He'll have his hands full, trying to fix the rotation. With that said, he's probably the most equipped to fix this team. anskyruben
Whether you want to give him credit or not, the Yanks won 3 championships on his watch. This is the first year they failed to make postseason under him. There are other GM's in this town getting extensions who have never come close to his accomplishments. He has made mistakes, but some of them were players that George wanted. I'm sure this team will be back in it next year. Less injuries is always good. vitony
Cash is doing a great job rebuilding the farm system that was ripped apart in the past 10 years. We have a lot of good young players down there, that could either develop or be used as chips. I have no problem with Cash coming back he is level headed and with him and Hal running the team we will be fine, let Hank run his mouth but dont let him make a single decision. Finally we have baseball people running the team and not fans. Cash needs to get CC this offseason and sign a big bat (not named Texiera). You cannot blame him for Pavano or Giambi. No one expected Giambi to completely change his game, approach and swing, get really sick and get caught for steriods.

No one expected Giambi to completely change his game, approach and swing, get really sick and get caught for steriods. Cash has a few challenges. 1) Fix Pitching. You need a top guy like CC and maybe another guy who can be a 3 or 4. It looks like Pettitte and Mussina may both retire. 2) Big bat. I agree that Texiera is not that guy. He's going to want an ARod contract, while playing a position that is stacked with hitting talent. 3) Fix the outfield. We have two outfielders who can't play good defense anymore. We have a bunch of young guys who are lacking in Offense. 4) Sit Jeter down and talk about his future. Maybe it's about time to start thinking about a position switch? Maybe not next year, but they ought to start preparing him for it.
Barton
This offseason is huge, biggest since the 2001 offseason. And its Cashmans last chance, he either gets it done this year or he needs to be shown the door. He's made too many mistakes the last few years, bottom line. I like what he's done in some areas, but his complete ignorance of other areas is inexcusable.
uart
Where/When did Gillick say he wasn't leaving Philly? Every article I've found says he's stepping down.

uart
I think Cano is going to be moved Depending on what we can get for him, I'm okay with that now. I think we'd have to get a SP though for it to make sense. Middle infielders are hard to find.
Blackout
I think Cano is going to be moved i'm disapointed that he isn't getting better at taking balls (no homo) i still think he's better than most 2nd basemen in terms of production
