NIGHT STALKER
You are old enough. What is Joe Gordon's claim to fame? Other then a being a Yankee and a power hitting 2B? This is not a pro Rice rebuttal. I just saw he was elected to the Hall via the Veteran's committee? Funny guy...if you go through the ton of posts in this thread, I said no player should be elected to the HOF if he doesn't get elected his first time around. Like Rice, Gordon's stats didn't change in all that elapsed time. He does have 5 WS rings though....
Bergen Jet
Does Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle? What's the point? The point is that you want players to have 1 shot at the HOF and done... Joe D. would not be in the HOF if that was the case. You said if you miss the first time that should be it. While 15 years is way too long and I will concur with that the idea of 1 and done leaves the door open for even bigger blunders.

Where did Joe DiMaggio miss his first time of eligibility? You better check that again. He retired in '51 and elected in his first year of eligibility four years later in '55. Bergen Jet
Actually I appear to have bad memory on Joe D and the HOF. He was voted in 4 years after he retired and received votes all 4 years but he wasn't eligible until his 5th year so he got voted in early. Bad example. GimmeShelter
Read a interesting point that I remember as being 100% accurate. Do ANY of our Yankee fans hear recall the Ricky Henderson "Manny being Manny " like act when scores of fans wanted him out of the Bronx "yesterday" for failing to hustle, mysterious injuries and prolonged recovery times? Rickey was hated in a ARod like fashion during much of his tenure in the Bronx because he chose when he felt like playing(see Mattingly's big RBI years) and when he didn't . http://www.nypost.com/seven/01182009/sports/yankees/hall_of_a_hustle_150687.htm
Kidhuman
Rickey dogged it everywhere he went.
PFSIKH
Rickey dogged it everywhere he went. "This is Rickey. Rickey plays when he wants to play. Any questions, just ask Rickey."
vanDoug
Blyleven needs to be in a crying shame Gotta agree here. Always thought one of the more impressive stats was a pitcher getting 300 wins. Bert finished at 287 which is damn close. Also he's #5 on the all time MLB strike out list. Good enough creds for me. Too bad I don't have a vote.
