There's a reason why the Yankees have won so much and it isnt because of luck and scouting. Money has always played a huge role in why the Yankees are successful. Yes, it does give you the opportunity for sure. But, there are several teams that spend the money and have nothing to show for it. If you're going to say that money had a large role in why the Yanks are successful, you have to include the Red Sox as well...that isn't all home grown talent they're playing with. The key is spending money wisely...Mets are another example of a team spending money and not spending it wisely. Yanks have not spent money wisely since 2000 if you want to base it solely on championships. We'll see what this bank roll of 2009 brings...again though, it isn't just about the money. In recent history it hasnt worked for the Yankees, but in 80 years it certainly has. Im not excluding anyone, but the Yankees have done this forever. Red Sox and Mets played cheap for many years before opening their wallet and getting top talent. Problem is people are too short sighted when it comes to the money issue in baseball. The Yankees are the most successful sports team in american history because they have always had a decisive edge when it comes to money. That is why they have 26 world championships. I've never said money will win you a championship. It puts you in a much better position to win. And that is all that matters, being in a position to win. The Yankees can win it every year. The NFL? The Cowboys are far and away the most dysfunctional winning* team in the NFL. *I use that word loosely.
