Mets need to hire Valentine ASAP

The problem with the Mets isn't Minaya or even Manuel, thoguh they do suck a$$ at their jobs.

It's the Wilpons.

You could bring in Backman(already under contract with the Mets at Brooklyn); Valentine; Bowa or Tony Pena-all smart, ballsy guys. All would have grave reservations about taking it. Though suspect Backman, with visions of a Showalterian turunaorund, would if offered anyway. But until you change the ownership, nothing changes. The Wilpons are still so cheap they squeak when they walk and nothing will change. Cliff Lee is the top free agent this year, and the Mets won't even make a phone call despite having need of a great starter, the 2nd biggest revenue and the biggest market.

Madoff cleaned them out. But ego prevents the Coupons from selling. It's as bad as the Knicks.

Madoff cleaned them out? I don't think so. I read an article a few months back saying the Wilpon's were among the few people who MADE money off of Bernie. They have no excuse. Mets fans deserve better than this.

From the wall stree journal

The New York Mets just emerged from a woeful season but the team's financial picture may not be as dire as previously believed.

A partnership connected to the baseball team -- which had widely been rumored to have lost money investing with Bernard Madoff -- actually gained a net $48 million from its dealings with the convicted swindler, according to a bankruptcy-court filing.
