"The first guy we looked at was awful," Tannenbaum remembers. "The second guy we looked at was worse." The final player's video package never made it into the DVD player. "The reason we took the third guy is that we didn't have enough time to watch the tape," Tannenbaum admits. Two years later, Matt Slauson, the 193rd pick of the draft, is a starter for one of the best offensive lines in the league.

Unless it was Suze Orman on his DVR, the very thought of Mike Tannenbaum watching "tape" amuses me to no end.
RutgersJetFan
http://articles.nyda...auson-nfl-draft Is this common or are we just the Jets? It's pretty common. People get souped about those comp picks in the 6th and 7th rounds, but in reality those picks are borderline trash. You're basically just keeping your fingers crossed for a guy who can make the team at those slots. The whole 'throwing darts' analogy doesn't really hold until the late rounds. There's no point in targeting anyone, so you're better off just weeding out who you wouldn't want.
stoicsentry
http://www.cleveland..._best_clev.html Look at the chart All things considered, that's actually pretty good. It's on the higher end of the mediocre teams and it doesn't count pro-bowlers who you traded for with draft picks (of which, I suspect we're towards the top of the list). sirlancemehlot
http://articles.nyda...auson-nfl-draft Is this common or are we just the Jets? According to the article the Jets have one of the best offensive lines in the league and have struck gold with Mark Sanchez. I think the "draft the guy we don't know a thing about" technique is going to be the new hot trend.
