The receiver-needy Cleveland Browns have no need for Earl Bennett.

The team on Tuesday terminated the contract of the six-year veteran just one month after signing the former Bears pass-catcher to a one-year, $730,000 deal.

The contract contained just $75,000 in guarantees, representative of where Bennett's career stands after being released by Chicago in March.

Barely scratching the surface in Marc Trestman's passing attack last season, Bennett squeezed out just 7.6 yards per reception, ranking him dead last among the 111 wideouts ranked by Pro Football Focus.

It's possible this marks the end for Bennett, who has averaged just 30.8 catches per season and struggled with concussion symptoms in 2013.

Awaiting word on Josh Gordon's potential suspension, the Browns ignored the position in the draft before tapping the open market to grab veterans Miles Austin and Nate Burleson.

The Browns currently house 14 wideouts on the roster, but Cleveland's ability to attack teams through the air will be choked if Gordon is lost for the season. Bennett wasn't going to change that.

In the latest edition of the "Around The League Podcast," the heroes discuss which teams "realistically" have no shot at winning the Super Bowl this season.

Should the jets show interest? This is a guy who can come in as depth and can play all three WR positions. Not sure how serious the concussion symptoms are though.

The Jets have an endless list of options for WR spots 3 through 6, and they're not going to cast aside a young player they see potential in for a guy like Bennett.  Not to say Jets couldn't still use some help at WR, but the reason to make a move at the position now would be if the Jets thought they could get a starter, and Bennett doesn't give them that.  Besides, Kerley and Nelson are already both better options than him (not to mention, of course, Decker).

Yeah, if Andre Johnson finds himself on the open market, the Jets should certainly take a look. This guy? No real use. They're not going to pick up a journeyman only to cut Stephen Hill or a fourth round pick.

I think he'd be a very bad pick up right now, but the kind of guy you consider into camp if these guys all suck.  They have to give these young guys reps.  Bennett is probably done, but if you have nothing into the preseason, he is the kind of crappy guy that will probably still be on the street healing up and you can take a chance.  Like Braylon the last couple of years or Cribbs and Austin Collie last year.  Desperation move.  We are not desperate.  Yet.

No. If you can't catch balls with Chicago and Philly, you definitely aren't going to make an impact here. Maybe they give him a practice squad contract.

Earl Bennett is not practice squad eligible. Practice squads are for developmental guys and they can't have more than an accrued season.  There is a limited number of games they can have been active for and on the active roster. Bennett's been in the league for like six years.  A better question than why would want a guy that couldn't catch balls in Chicago and Philly is why would want a guy that Cleveland gave up on.

Good point. And he just got cut from a Browns team that is about to lose their best WR possibly for the year. Then again the jets had the worst targets in the league at a whole so I'm expecting the Jets to look at any and every thing and put the best group of guys together.
