Geno Smith is down for likely two months but the New York Jets odds to make the Super Bowl are likely to be up and better than they were earlier today, at least so says Las Vegas.

The news that Smith was sucker-punched by teammate IK Enempkali before Tuesday's training camp practice rocked the Jets locker room for all the wrong reasons. But since veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely to start, it appears that the gambling world thinks the Jets odds to win have actually improved. Smith is slated to miss up to 10 weeks as the fallout from the punch will require jaw surgery.

As of July, gambling website Bovada.LV had the Jets at 50:1 odds to win the Super Bowl, alongside teams such as the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers.

Now the Jets odds for the season are off the board as the bookmakers adjust but they might actually be improved with Fitzpatrick and not Smith under center.

“With the Geno Smith news, our 'Season Win Total' for the Jets is currently down until we re-calculate it,” said Kevin Bradley, Sportsbook Manager for Bovada. “As far as Super Bowl, conference or division odds, they will likely improve if anything with Smith out."

Apparently, the bookmakers didn't exactly like Smith leading this team this year. Talk about insult to injury.

Dumb article.  It was written before the new odds went up.  Which are now 66:1.  And rightfully so in my opinion.

Reposting because original article was posted again.

Is it really that hard to actually check the odds before writing/posting complete BS?

How bad is the bearded one? The Jets are Fitzpatrick’s fourth team in four years. If he stays healthy enough to start the Jets’ season opener Sept. 13 against the Browns, they will be the sixth team for which he starts. He has started 89 games in 10 seasons — he is 33-55-1 — and not one of his teams has ever made the playoffs. The good news is that means he should fit in just fine with the Jets.

how can odds go up w/ a QB that has never started more than 6 wins in a season?

Holy sh!t this thread is killing me.  It's like some weird twilight zone where any false fact can be said and everyone believes it.  (Like many Right-Wing posts on Facebook.)

The odds went down.

Vegas believes the Jets have a better shot at winning the SB with Geno, not Fitz.

They were at 50:1 with a healthy Geno.  They are now at 66:1.  From the exact same site the original article references.

The author is a POS biased fool.

Maccagnan indicated he thought Smith would be out at least through the team’s first four games of the season. The timetable initially was a 6-to 10-week recovery that would have put Smith back, at the earliest, by Week 3 of the season. Smith is recovering from jaw surgery, which took place last Thursday.

genoweb19s-1-web.jpgROBERT SABO/NEW YORK DAILY NEWS It's possible that Geno Smith ends up on short-term injured reserve, according to Jets GM Mike Maccagnan.

Maccagnan said it was a “possibility” but unlikely that the team would place Smith on short-term IR, which would keep him out for eight weeks of the season. That means Gang Green will likely carry four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.

I didn't read through the thread, just read the headline.

I've been a Geno supporter but no halfway knowledgable person call Fitz a downgrade.

We know what Fitz is, just a quality backup.  The book is still out on geno though he has sucked through 2 seasons.  Fitz puts up decent enough #s to impress most fans that don't actually watch him play.

Sorry man. Didn't mean to seem as though I was bitching at you. It's the thread as a whole that's really annoying. The truth is actually the complete opposite of what the thread tries to state.
