Plenty of intriguing plot twists in the Jets' quarterback soap opera

The usual talk about 2nd or 3d stringers is mostly always been irrelevant in my eyes unless it is a teams 1st stringers vs the 2nd and 3rd stringer.  The player still has to execute and make the plays he is asked to no matter what the situation.  The bigger factor is my mind is the bare bones play book and no real game planning that can create some misconceptions.  The 2nd, 3rd string players bit  is largely overblown in my mind.

Glad you agree. Look what happens when you put both facts together:

One thing thats a fact, he got better as the game progressed. Another thing that's a fact, as the game progressed, the Jags D subbed out second stringers for third stringers.

We're talking about a second round pick who's started 30 NFL games, and is going in to his fourth year in the league and second year with this coach and playbook. And you're impressed that while he was bad against second stringers, and wasn't lighting it up when he got to go against the third stringers, at least he wasn't poor.

That's a fact. Too.

So by the time Petty came in who exactly was he throwing against ?

When will all this end ?

Petty was throwing against the crappy 3rd stringers as well. So that leaves us at:

Petty: 4th round project who has seen a grand total of 0 snaps in the NFL, going in to his second year. Effort for Jax game against 3rd stringers: Good. Overall: Good.
Geno: 2nd round pick who was generally viewed as a potential starter, who did end up starting 30 NFL games, and is going in to his fourth year. Effort for Jax game against 2nd stringers: Abysmal. Against 3rd stringers: Very Good. Overall: Good.

That's where this ends.

Geno's the #2 and Bowles said that it isnt changing at this moment.

It ended when he made that statement.

When I read this board, I think I gain new revelation into why our country is the way it is and why so many commit unspeakable crimes in our society . I truly believe that there's a segment of our society who live to push the buttons of others so they can get some enjoyment out of what might be a miserable experience otherwise.

I ask myself why are so many so disenchanted with their day to day when it's a gift that doesn't have to be given .

Were the fire Idzik billboards racist or nah?

I doubt it, though I never seen Idzik being referred to as a "being nothing more than a drug dealer in his neighborhood if he wasnt a GM in the NFL".

Nope, never seen it. I doubt this is a racial thing generally, atleast I dont believe, but some of the things I've read shows that it was everything but flat out saying it from a few.

I don't think the Geno thing is a racial thing at all. When he came in most Jets fans loved him, because his first name wasn't Mark, and his last name wasn't Sanchez. I think the hate is more from the way he acted since he got here. I think Jay Cutler would be just as hated as Geno is. I find it offensive that Jets fans who don't like Geno are being accused of being racist. People who are racist are racist, not liking a QB who has acted like a dick over and over again is not racist, its not liking a person who acted like a dick.

1) Jay Cutler is not nearly as hated as Geno

2) There are plenty of QBs who act like or are "dicks" and don't get nearly as much hate.

2) I've personally seen/heard many people say some crazy, personal, and just plain racist (whether borderline or outright) things said against Geno. So yes, race does play a part in it.

I'm not even going to get into the whole "Black QB" conundrum. Because this is not the place for that talk and most of you wouldn't understand. So I'm not even going to get into that because it's pointless

Not everything is racism. Nobody hated Geno when he came in to get Sanchez out of here, he was a hero in those days. His actions over the years led to his hate, not his race. Telling people they dislike a player because they are of a certain race or ethnicity is offensive. My most hated Jet of all time was Mark Gastineu, not because he was white, but because he was a giant dick with ears and had a cheesy porn-stache.

Exactly. I simply said that race plays a part. Reading is fundamental, friends

I disagree, I don't think Geno Smith is hated in any way by the majority of haters because of his race. I would attribute it to many other things. But you both are free to attribute it to whatever you want. I am not saying there are not some morons who do hate him because of his race, but that is not something to generalize, and is offensive to insinuate.

No one said that, but lets get this back on topic though. I dont want the mods to lock the thread.

cool, don't accuse people of racism in the future please.

Nobody was specifically accused of racism here (trust me, I'd call you out on it if I saw fit). All I said was race played a part for many fans (how much of it plays a part is another discussion altogether).

If race has no bearing on your feelings towards Geno, then fine. No need to get upset. If it doesn't apply, let it fly

I hear you, however lets us do the mods a favor and get back on topic. I'd rather not see this thread locked for the potential this particular subject could take this thread.

Fair enough.

I don't even trip over it. It is what it is.

What I do find funny however, is that anybody who has anything to say about Geno that's not negative is called a Geno lover. I'm called a Geno lover, yet...

- I didn't even want the Jets to draft him in the 1st place

- I wanted the Jets to draft Teddy Bridegwater in 2014

- During the season when the Jets were at 1-7, I was screaming to the high heavens for the Jets to lose out so we could draft Jameis Winston

But yet, I'm a Geno lover. LMFAO, gotta love it

This is where Woody really dropped the ball man, he should have fired Rex, put anyone with a bruise on IR, and handed the team over to MM to die so the Jets could have gotten Jameis.

Exactly.

We'd have an elite QB in the making, and it would've saved us a countless amount of pointless debates/arguments :(

Passing up on Bridgewater when he was on the clock hurts too :(

QB is a funny position isn't it.

Any other position they bring in a lot of players and you have to earn your spot. With QB they pick the chosen one in the draft, give him years of support and hope he turns out.

I like how the Jets are currently handling the QB position. Give support for sure, as they should for any player they sign, but you have to earn the next step up. I think picking anointed kid after anointed kid isn't the way to go. PIck young, support them but they need to show they are progressing. Not be kept on a roster because they might.

With that all said I don't think they will trade Geno and replace him with Petty. Because if Fitz goes down in the 2nd quarter of the season opener and is gone for the season, you are left with Petty who has never taken a regular season snap as QB1 and Hack as QB2. That's just to thin and a risk. They would have to then go out and get a Vet QB at the Drive Thru like Charlie Whitehurst. That's a bloody shambles.

So IMO they will keep Geno and carry 4 QBs. Can't cut Petty to the practice squad cause he's playing well enough he will get picked by another team. And we want him here next year cause we need as many young QBs we can develop to find a long term starter and depth. Just IMO.

I am a black man, so I don't really need you to call me out on racism, but thanks for the offer. And I don't hate Geno, I think he has acted like a moron, but I don't hate any man I don't know personally. I come to a sports message board to get away from this type of BS.........
