Moses... What would you Offer ?

We have a bunch of overspending GMs here at JetNation ;)

Jets declined trading a conditional 7th rounder to get Moses in the $7.5-8MM range. It was a given they wouldn't be paying that much to him after he was cut, and lock into him with multiple guaranteed seasons in June after everyone's starting lineups are set.

Also so much for the idea that the Crowder pay cut demand was anything other than "Douglas squeezed Crowder because he could" (i.e. had nothing to do with the idea that they couldn't sign Moses unless Crowder either took a massive pay cut or got cut outright).

So rather than keeping Crowder at his original $ he got Crowder and Moses for basically that same $. Pretty sweet.

This is for the 2022 season:

Expect some additional contract renegotiations in the near future

Fant(bad return on investment) McGovern and GVR in particular

Doubt much is going to be renegotiated:

- GVR maybe the team could squeeze another million or two out of, but at that point he’d be making the league minimum so there’s no incentive for him to take the cut until after he’s lost the competition for the starting job

- Griffin should be dropped/lowered before GVR, who’s at least a legit full-time starter. He’s the most likely to be renegotiated down, but $2MM is roughly his break-even point (he’s still got some guaranteed $ left, so if he makes someone else’s roster at the veteran minimum he’d make more than taking a pay cut >$2MM).

- McGovern’s whole year $ is guaranteed, so that’s not happening.

- Ditto Mosley.

- Fant has about half his money guaranteed (more guaranteed than Moses) so the most likely way the Jets save anything on him is by cutting him outright. Unless there’s an offset clause in his contract, the most the Jets could save is a couple million (he’d make the same or more by getting released). If he loses out to Moses (which most expect) and Becton gets back on track, the question is whether or not JD is willing to suck up $4MM more for Fant’s remaining $ as a swing tackle vs. cutting him and signing someone else. Too early to tell.
