Claypool, Pickens and Freiermuth are the kind of players people around here salivate over and Diontae Johnson is probably better than all of them. Yes, Pickett is a rookie, but we didn't exactly start a grizzled vet under center. At least we got them to bench Trubisky. That's more than the Pats, Bengals or Browns can say. Sorry, I met Johnson. I keep confusing his name with Davanta Smith. Anyway, just my opinion. As far as benching Trubisky, I think they just saw enough of him at that point and decided it was time for the rookie. I know the Jets restructured, giving him more guaranteed money next year. Is he basically uncuttable at that time? @Sperm Edwards Seeing Tight Ends roaming across the intermediate middle is frustrating. Watching home a tick late on any tackle is maddening. Watching him draw penalties for always piling on is indefensible. Jets need to be better there. He’s just as cuttable. The only difference in effect is we borrowed some of 2023’s cap room for 2022. That shouldn’t be an issue as some of those veteran starters are getting replaced on the field by draft picks (i.e. there would’ve been a surplus of space in ‘23 anyway). It seems as though he’s less cuttable because there’s dead cap for cutting him, but that’s because we moved his 2022 cap hit to the future, not because he was given or guaranteed any additional money. His 2023 salary is $17MM, and it’s not guaranteed. That’s the only decision before the team: cut him, renegotiate a lower amount, or pay it in full. Personally I prefer the first option, expect the middle option, and think there’s little danger of the last option. Anyway, any other discussion is deciding whether his 2022 money - which was fully guaranteed anyway - had hit in 2022 or 2023 or beyond. They might designate him a June 1 cut so that dead cap spreads over 2 years instead of all at once in ‘23, but even that doesn’t matter either (seeing how new signings could just be backloaded anyway, so you’re just choosing between backloading Mosley’s dead cap or a new signing’s first year hit). They’re in good cap shape for ‘23.

However bad Saleh might be, Ulbrich is running laps around him in the suckathon. That's a lot of laps!

Lots of teams play specialists at backer; there’s not near as many 3 down linebackers as there uses to be. Saleh rotates his defensive linemen to keep them fresh but doesn’t test playing different linebackers based on situation. i'm no fan of mosely at this stage in his career. he is probably the wrong type of lb for saleh's system but he does bring some leadership and that can't be underestimated on such a young team. plus remember sherwood was mainly a safety and is learning to be a lb. Yep, he still brings leadership value, little doubt on that. Maybe sprinkle in a little Sherwood here and there on third & longs to give him a shot and help in his development.
