Why are all these other teams able to compete with backup QBs?

The difference is over the course of 17 games a second string QB will show all his warts. If Rodgers  just missed the Jets first 7 games he would have come back to a 4-3 record, which would have been ok. Unfortunately when the starter is out for the whole season, it usually dooms the season.

Exactly.  This board was incessantly whining cause we didnt bring in josh dobbs.  Laughable.

Watching the games yesterday.  The Steelers looked good with Rudolph who was 3rd on their depth chart and the Chargers lost but played competitively with Easton Stick (sounds like a bat)
The Steelers are an actual NFL organization.

Dreadful?  Yes Browning didnt play well but he threw for 335 yards which would be get a Jets QB inducted into the ring of honor.
11 points and three INTs with the playoffs at stake? We'd be lynching him. Frequently.

The owner refused to believe that wilson sucked as bad as he did, yet, he went along with douglas’ plan to trade (by the plan) a 2nd and a 1st rounder for Aaron rodgers.  In hindsight, IMO the deal that douglas cut with woody was, look, we’ll trade all these premium picks for rodgers with the hope he gets us over the hump, but to appease you woody, we’ll keep Wilson and rodgers will tutor him and say nice things about him so Wilson’s family doesn’t flip out when rodgers comes.

This is pretty much how it went down.

A backup qb being good is a needle in a haystack.  The jets took a chance w zach who has huge upside and it didnt work out.  No big deal.  We will be back next year and this whole board will be talking super bowl in august.

1)  The Jets 'brain trust' in their wildest dreams could not imagine Rodgers getting hurt, 'braintrust' and thus had no viable backup QB.

2) Once it got through their thick heads that the guy they benched last year was indeed bad, they did virtually nothing to add a viable backup

3) Their offensive talent is horrendous, awful oline, one good back, one great wr and a bunch of low value jags

4) They brought in the worst OC you could possibly get with a rigid system that can' adapt to not having a hof QB.

Next question?
