Hael
I’ll go to the grave saying the Rogers contract was a good decision. In fact it was the only decision. The Jets were in a terrible spot, b/c they knew they had busted on a high pick qb, but the rest of the very young team was turning into a borderline superbowl talent squad. You basically get 2 or 3 years of that before all the rookies contracts come into their own and then its over and you are back to middle of the pack talent wise (and still looking for a qb). The brass knew perfectly well they were going nowhere with Wilson, so you need a new vet qb for a small window and hopefully draft the replacement at some point. Rogers was by far the best available veteran qb on the market. He was the only one that gave them any sort of a shot at a superbowl and in addition was only league average in terms of compensation (the contract described above is indeed about average for a starting qb). So while trading the farm for Lamar Jackson obviously upgrades your team more, you still basically only have that year or two window and then you are even more effed on the other side of it. We chose the all in, but only effed for one season after he retires route, as opposed to all in and then you are screwed for two or three more years (see Denver). 2

bicketybam
Well said. It’s also disingenuous reading those who were completely behind the deal now call it a horrible albatross. Hindsight is easy. A good deal can absolutely turn bad for a variety of reasons (like injuries and failure to secure a backup QB) but that doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision at the time. .. Still waiting for any insights into how the Jets would have fit any quality veteran QB under their cap without deferring a significant chunk, either from that person or somebody else. Have a good night. Chicken stew awaits What's the post count threshold for being allowed to flip flop positions and have no one call you on it? 150k?

(2) Sign a QB that their current team doesn't want anymore. Pick your poison. Isn't #2 what we did already with RA8? My point is that there were less costly and less ancient QBs we could have pursued in his place. I just don't like in oh so many ways being owned by AR8. "Don't blame them for making a bunch of bad decisions to put them in a place where they had to choose between the best of some really bad decisions!". A classic. Do you read beyond the first sentence?@Hael blamed them for busting on Zach Wilson. The Jets pivoted as they should have done, just like SF did after busting on Lance. Nobody is saying the Jets have otherwise done a great job. - They bombed on Wilson - Their draft & FA busts put them in a position where they needed to backload a lot of Rodger’s contract (as they would have needed to do for any quality FA QB#1 contract) - They haven’t made difficult decisions like requiring Mosley to take a pay cut - They caved in to a lot of Rodgers awful year 1 personnel ‘requests’ - They somehow thought Duane Brown could lock down the LT position - They failed to get a quality backup QB after telling the world Zach needed to sit a year JD & Saleh are still lucky to have a job. This topic though is about Rodger’s contract. 1

That or a snarky one liner. Maybe one day we can get a real debate on football with certain posters.

You seem so very happy in life. Unfortunately, you consider "real" debate only things that support your view.

I responded with a thoughtful list of things that supported both our views that the Jets suck but also my view that the Rodgers contract is not an albatross. You genuinely seem like a smart guy, maybe add some positives to the discussion rather than not so subtly implying that others' ideas are stupid. Be open minded to other points of view than reacting. This organization has caused us all suffering! We're definitely on the same team
