Yeah I never saw anything that made me think he could contribute.

ARodJetsFan
Jets waive former Rams wide receiver, sign fan favorite to Practice Squad (msn.com) Jets waive former Rams wide receiver, sign fan favorite to Practice Squad Mourn no more, New York Jets' fans. Underdog wide receiver Jason Brownlee has returned to the organization as a Practice Squad player. The undrafted pass-catcher, who made the team as a rookie in 2023, signed a contract with the Jets on Friday. In a corresponding move, New York released wide receiver Lance McCutcheon from the Practice Squad to create room for Brownlee. After surviving the initial roster cutdown to the 53-man limit for the second year in a row, Brownlee found himself on the waiver wire one day later. The Jets claimed former Chicago Bears' rookie tight end Brenden Bates on Wednesday, bumping Brownlee off the roster. Fortunately for New York, and a portion of its fan base, Brownlee cleared waivers and became eligible to sign with any team. The Southern Miss product chose to rejoin the organization that gave him a chance to launch his NFL career 16 months ago. As a rookie in OTAs, Brownlee and fellow undrafted prospect Xavier Gipson both earn public recognition for their performance from future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Both subsequently made their NFL debuts with Gang Green and maintained their roster status throughout the season. Brownlee was active for seven games in 2023, logging 311 snaps on offense. He was targeted only eight times as a receiver, making five grabs for 56 yards. He recorded his first career touchdown reception in a 30-28 win over the Washington Commanders on Christmas Eve at MetLife Stadium. McCutcheon was a member of the Jets' Practice Squad last year but did not see game action. He did make 10 regular season appearances as a rookie with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. The Jets are currently maxed out with P-Squad players, all of whom were a part of training camp this summer. In addition to the 16 allowed members, New York has a 17-man unit thanks to an International Pathway exemption for foreign-born offensive tackle Obinna Eze. mrcoops
Our long national nightmare is over. Glad they decided to keep Brandon Smith over McCutcheon on the PS. I'm pretty meh on Brownlee, but at least this will keep his large fanclub happy. Our roster, even extending onto the PS, looks very strong this year.

I haven't given up on him yet. Some players just take longer to get it. He may not ever, but it's too soon to give up on him. He knows the scheme and has chemistry with Rodgers and his teammates.

The problems I've noticed with him, is he has trouble making contested catches. Additionally, he seems to struggle at times tracking the ball. Maybe as he gains experience, he can overcome these issues. Conversely, these same 2 areas (contested catches & tracking the ball) are areas Brandon Jackson has excelled. I think Brownlee can carve out a roll, as a possession type, slot receiver, but I'm far more excited about Brandon Smith's potential. I think B Smith has some ball skills & ability, that Brownlee just doesn't have.
