Super shuffle? McNabb, Briggs swap makes sense

Monday, May 21, 2007 2:06 pm EDT

Was the recent drafting of quarterback Kevin Kolb a sign that the Philadelphia Eagles might trade Donovan McNabb before the 2007 season?

That's one theory, anyway. As for a possible destination, the Chicago Bears are ready to win the Super Bowl. They might have won it last year except for a glaring weakness at quarterback.

The key to this scenario is Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who has said publicly that he will never play for Chicago again and who refused to report to minicamp on Friday.

Briggs is, arguably, the best weakside linebacker in the game and is only 26. He could help Philly rebuild its defense while Kolb gets ready to take control of the offense.

This is not going to happen. The Eagles would basically be waving the white flag for 2007 by having no QB. The NFC East is very winnable and the Eagles are still a solid team, not a rebuilding mess (like the Chiefs).

Lance Briggs, a Top 5-10 Linebacker for Donovan McNabb, a Top 5-10 Quarterback, when healthy.

It makes sense in these ways:

Philly's D is getting old and Briggs, only 26, adds youth and makes their Linebacking core, very, very scary.

For Chicago, they get the Quarterback who undoubtely will take them to the Super Bowl and will give them a small chance of beating whomever the AFC throws at them in the Super Bowl.

Grossman is on the final year of his rookie deal and could walk after '07 if they are able to obtain McNabb.

Philly will have to go through some sort of growing pain struggles with Kolb for a year or two, especially because of their lack of talent at Wide Receiver, but would still compete against Dallas and Washington for the NFC East crown. Lets face it, the Giants without Tiki are at best a yearly .500 team.

The difference of value in a top 5-10 LB and a top 5-10 QB is immense. The trade is a joke. Philly can have a scary, scary LB corps and it won't make a **** whenever AJ Feeley is playing soft toss with the opposing team's defensive backs.

That's when he's healthy, injuries is part of the NFL. You can't change that. Rex Grossman is just as good as McNabb WHEN he's consistent. Don't you find that the same thing ?

That would be the dumbest trade ever, from the Eagles perspective.

Franchise QB straight-up for a linebacker. Wow. Some people have too much time on their hands. Hell, maybe we can get McNabb for Vilma!

McNabb is not a franchise QB anymore, however I still wouldn't do this trade. The NFC east is up for grabs next year and McNabb is still a very good QB. If he stays healthy he could get back to being a franchise QB. If this does happen look for the Bears to make it back and have a strong chance to win. If McNabb stays on the field.
