Steveg
Not sure if this was brought up.....He lost a good 15 seconds on that long pass during the last touchdown drive by turning in instead of out of bounds. With only 1 time out that really hurt.....
genom
I remember that play, i was screaming for him to get out of bounds.
DMaynard
He was probably in shock that Chad threw the ball over 20 yards.
Sperm Edwards
Sadly, that's a coaching issue. It should be drilled into the player's head so much that there's no thought involved. Clearly this wasn't the case. It was a case of bad coaching. At the very LATEST, it should be communicated to any offensive player capable of touching the ball at the start of that drive: GET OUT OF BOUNDS. Sperm Edwards
yes but you cant blame him for the player trying to make a play There's a time & place for that. This was neither. Not going out of bounds turned what should have been a quick 20-yard gain into three 6-7 yard gains. Unless he saw nothing but endzone in front of him he's got to go out of bounds there. Irish Jet
It Chads fault. He telepathically told him to fight for extra yardage.

I completely agree. It should have been pounded into their heads on the sidelines. Another mistake filled game.

Of course, maybe his inability to grasp all this is part of the reason Smith has had trouble overtaking McCareins as #3.

Then again, if he is that dumb, it is a coaching issue again. Didn't Mangini say in his first press conference as Jets HC that he wanted smart players? Maybe Mangini doesn't know what he wants. One then has to wonder if subtleties like this would have been taken care of if we didn't waste time trying him out at QB & giving him three sets of responsibilities (when you include special teams) to learn. Good point. I have said since I first saw this kid as a rookie in TC that he has tremendous potential as a WR. As a QB, he is nothing more than trick plays and special situations. They should not have filled his head with any other expectations.
