DRob, Vilma, Kendall...

If I am not mistaken for DRob, he has to play in 65% of the snaps in order for us to get a 5th rounder for him

Vilma needs to play in 75% and be re-signed in order for us to get a second rounder, which in turn will escalate the giants to receive a first rounder for Shockey

I am not sure about Kendall

If we didn't get anything for Kendall in 08 it looks like it will be a 4th in 09. I can't remember if we got a 5th in 08 or not

The New York Jets ended months of acrimony and bickering with starting left guard Pete Kendall on Thursday, trading the disgruntled 11-year veteran to the Washington Redskins for a future draft choice.

Clayton: Winners All

The Jets will receive a fifth-round pick in 2008 if Kendall plays 80 percent of the snaps this year for Washington; if he plays more than that, the pick would be upgraded to a fourth-rounder in 2009.

The deal came after an offseason in which Kendall, upset about his contract, did not take part in any of the Jets' voluntary activities, and in which he railed against management. One of the game's most candid players, and unafraid to speak his mind, Kendall went public with his grievances over the contractual dispute.

"We were really comfortable with the trade and the value that we got in the trade," Jets coach Eric Mangini said Thursday morning. "When this opportunity presented itself, we thought it was a good opportunity and, as always, we're trying to make the best decisions to help the team win."

The deal ends Kendall's three-season tenure with the Jets.

"Pete and I had a great conversation last night," Mangini said. "I wished him well and he thanked me. We joked about having beverages on Cape Cod when I'm down there."

After accepting a salary reduction last year, Kendall sought to have his compensation for this season, scheduled at a base salary of $1.68 million, increased by $1 million. Jets officials, though, steadfastly declined to renegotiate. Kendall claimed that the Jets had reneged on a promise to readjust his salary again if he performed well in 2006.

Discussions with the Redskins, who will use Kendall to replace Derrick Dockery, a standout left guard who signed with Buffalo as an unrestricted free agent this spring, heated up in the past few days. Washington had planned to use Todd Wade, an offense tackle for most of his career, at guard, but Kendall is a far better option there.

Kendall, 34, should be an excellent fit with Washington's veteran blocking unit.

Several other teams, including the Miami Dolphins, had inquired about Kendall as well. But the Jets preferred to send him to a team in the NFC. New York does, though, host the Redskins in an interconference game on Nov. 4.

Washington will mark the fourth stop for Kendall in his NFL career. He entered the league as a first-round pick with Seattle in 1996. His r

Kendall = 4th in 08

Vilma = 2nd round pick if he is resigned prior to the end of the year and hits playing time incentives (85%), as low as a 3th round pick (more on that below.).

DRobbery = Nothing to potentially a 3rd round pick equivalent value - not sure how that breaks down or who decides on how to assess the value. If he plays more than 65% of the defensive snaps. (Expect Shanny to rotate him out to ensure he plays less than 65% of the snaps - in other words expect nothing)

When it's all said and done, we will have an extra 3rd and a 4th. Look at them as more ammo for Tanny to trade up with.

On Vilma:

Did the Saints use one of the Jets’ picks in the 2009 draft to acquire Jeremy Shockey yesterday?

When the Saints traded for Jonathan Vilma earlier this year, they gave the Jets a fourth rounder in the 2008 draft with a conditional pick in the 2009 draft that could go as high as the second round. That second round pick in 2009 was then included with a fifth-rounder in the more recent deal for Shockey. So what gives?

According to a league source, the Jets would get the second round pick if Vilma plays 85 percent of the defensive snaps and the Saints sign him to a new deal before the end of this season. If those criteria are not met, the Jets will receive a third-rounder and the Giants get the second- and fifth-rounders. If the Jets get the second rounder, though, the Shockey value will change from a second- and a fifth-rounder in 2009 to a first-rounder in 2010.

"That’s not going to happen because the Saints hold all the cards, and they’re not going to just give away that first rounder when they really don't have to," the source said.

It’s been speculated that Vilma, a fellow University of Miami product, was one of the players who was in Shockey's ear, trying to lure him to the Saints during this summer. If that’s the case (and we're not saying it is since that would probably be some type of tampering), Vilma may have recruited his way out of a new contract in New Orleans -- at least until after free agency opens up.

Many have called the Shockey trade a win-win deal. The only loser appears to be the Jets, who will undoubtedly see their potential second-round pricetag for Vilma shrink to a third.

are U serious a 5th rounder for Drob. He's worth at least a 3rd and if u recall correctly we gave up alot to move up to get Drob.

Why do giants get saints 1st rounder if Vilma plays the year , isnt there trade a done deal shockey for a 2nd. The jets is conditional.

I doubt they'll even see the 5th. DRob has to play in 65% of the plays for them to get anything. That was the only deal on the table so that is what he was worth. There is almost no chance the Jets will get the Saints 2nd. IF the Jets rate the Saints 2nd the Giants get the 2010 1st. Not likely.

I dont know but it looks like we are getting beat on these trades. 2 guys that were high 1st rounders and one was defensive rookie of the year for a 3rd and a 4th round. We have to give everything but the kitchen sink to move up a couple of slots .

3rd and 4th picks are garbage picks for these 2 players, and we have to give a 4th for a player thats 39 and only going to play 1 to 2 years. M Tann is a genius alright

Garbage picks for garbage players. Two players with serious and recurrent knee injuries that have been under-performing and had contracts that were either prohibitive or expiring. What was Pennington's trade value? The guy had value, but not with that contract. Where you are drafted has no bearing on your trade value. How much would you give up for Mike Williams? David Carr? Colston? Willie Parker?

Pretty shoddy analysis.

The 85% might be tough to get to, but if the Saints really love Vilma, they're going to play him and resign him. The upgraded pick really isn't that big of an upgrade. On those draft pick trade charts, a pick this year is worth a pick one round higher the following year (the NFL's version of a bird in the hand being worth two in the bush). So the pick's in a better round, but the jints have to wait an extra year for it. That's the reason for the "upgrade."

Meanwhile, if the Saints give the Jets the #2 it doesn't hurt them too badly. Which draft scenario do they prefer - no 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in 2009, or no 2nd in '09, and no 1st in '10? If they think they're close, they may prefer to hold onto some picks in next year's draft.
