Texans give Andre Johnson extension

HOUSTON -- Andre Johnson has signed a new contract to stay with the Houston Texans through the 2016 season.

The 29-year-old Johnson had five years left on a deal worth $60 million, but wanted to renegotiate. Texans general manager Rick Smith would not immediately release terms of the new contract, which amounts to a two-year extension.

KRIV-TV in Houston reported that Johnson received a two-year, $38.5 million extension with $13 million guaranteed. The extension, added to the five-years and $35 million left on Johnson's existing deal makes for a restructured seven-year, $73.5 million contract. The per-average salary of $10.5 million is the highest for any receiver in the NFL.

Johnson says he's prepared to play for the Texans for his entire career. The All-Pro receiver has led the league in receiving yards the past two seasons and topped 100 catches in three of the past four. He has the NFL's highest receiving yards average (90.2 per game) since 2006.

Last week, team owner Bob McNair said he envisions Johnson becoming the franchise's first Hall of Fame inductee.

Negotiated with five years left on his existing deal.

This is good news for Revis, and maybe gives the Jets a structure they can all work with once those details come out. Something along these lines oughta get Revis back into the fold.

It should be interesting, as both sides had their case helped with this situation, and both sides were somewhat hurt. The Jets can point to the fact that Johnson took an extension, which means he's playing the coming years under the terms of his original agreement. On the flip side, Revis has the bonus Johnson received to point to as well as his contract being pulled up to a yearly average greater than the highest paid WR. Of course, that number is still substantially lower than the one Revis is requesting.

I'm not sure how much it will really settle, because even if the Jets concede a signing bonus, I'm doubting Revis will have any interest in allowing the next 3 years remain as is and having backloaded salary numbers. And unless it's some ridiculous number in the last year of the deal that drags the average way up, I still don't see the Jets breaking $16 million, if that is what Revis really wants.

If anything, it at least gives them something more to talk about and perhaps a direction to go into that can work for the team, player and under the CBA.

haha just looking at NFL Live and seen the news. Revis is going to get his money because of this. Not only that but wasnt Johnson an "Island" victim?

Curious how much of this new guaranteed money is signing bonus and how much is salary that's truly guaranteed.

NFL contracts are a joke..he had 5 years left? this is going to set terrible precedent regardless of who the player is
