Suggested FAs

Darrelle Revis, NE CB - People love to hate this guy, but he's the greatest CB of all time and still in his prime.

James Carpenter, SEA OL - A solid young player on the up, might even be worth a look at RT. Injuries slowed him down after being a surprise top half of the first pick, but he was a good all around LG last year. He's a better buy, and better and probably less penalized pass blocker, than Iupati.

Chris Cook, SF CB - Tall, lanky CB has injury troubles, but is productive when on the field. Should be cheaper than other second and third tier CBs this year, maybe.

Bryan Bulaga, GB OT - Better big name OL buy than Iupati and can replace D'Brick at LT next year or the year after, w/e it is.

Stefen Wisniewski, OAK G/C

Justin Houston, KC DE/OLB - The best FA signing possible.

Geno Hayes, JAX ILB/LB - Harris replacement. Replaced Bowman at Penn St., and a decent enough LB in his own right.

Virgil Green/Charles Clay - Clay would be a perfect compliment to Amaro, but I'd take either one over Cumberland.

Randall Cobb, GB WR - A legitimate playmaker with a long track record. Underrated I think, which is saying something because most people at least have some idea that he's good.

TJ Yates, ATL QB - I have no idea wtf to do at QB. I don't hate Yates - decent at UNC, played under Kubiak in Houston, and then backed up Matt Ryan....

Antrel Rolle, NYG S - A really good locker room veteran. A long career as a safety who did more than play downhill at the position before it was cool. Won't break the bank at a position they probably shouldn't pay big money for.

Kenrick Ellis Jets NT/DT - He's on the up and up, the best long term talent of the non-Wilkerson/Richardson DL.

Zoltan Mesko, P - I didn't even know how the Zoltan was available. Probably some kind of conspiracy...

There might be others...I could be convinced that McClain is turned around...Culliver or Jackson should probably be on the main list...Kendrick Lewis is alright for S/DB depth....

Another plus to Rolle (for the Jets) is location. That sometimes means a whole lot, especially for vets.

Also, I feel like if we do go for adding 2 CBs, we definitely need a solid FA, but the trio of CBs FAs from the 9ers (Cook, Culliver, Cox), all pretty decent for depth. Also, cheap. Wouldn't mind Revis/Maxwell and signing one of those 3.

At CB, I like SF's Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox, both are tall and lean (26, and 28, respectively), and are pass defending freaks.

Also, I'm surprised nobody is talking about Tramon Williams out of Green Bay. That guy is on the shorter side, but can smother WRs.

Perrish Cox sucks, he just happened to have a good season.

If the 49er cut Vernon Davis, throw him on the list. I don't buy that Davis is finished, and he is definitely an upgrade over Cumberland. Also would be the best TE available all offseason since the draft guys generally suck this year and TEs usually suck as rookies anyway.

Good news:

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS:

G James Carpenter, 864 snaps played: Carpenter has started 39 games since being taken in the first round in 2011. But only once has he started more than 10 in a season — last year when he had 13 starts at left guard. He was a key part of the Seahawks setting a team record in rushing last season, and it appears the team would like to keep him at the right price. But that’s the rub — there are rumblings that Carpenter wants $4 million or so a year and the Seahawks don’t want to go quite that high. The Jets have been said a likely pursuer of Carpenter and if the money gets too high, the Seahawks might say goodbye. Alvin Bailey could take over or Seattle could try to find a replacement in free agency or the draft.

http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/seahawks/reviewing-seattles-free-agents-with-the-signing-period-looming/

Carpenter for RT, Wisniewski for RG, and Aboushi gets his shot at LG.

Barksdale from the Rams might be an interesting RT option too, maybe.

Good read Senor

I was initially on the Lupati bus (the big name) to improve the oline but you make a good case for Carpenter (cost and value)

Houston has the tag so Worilds would be my FA OLB target for some of the same reasons (not the big name good fit for systems, etc...)

Cook is interesting as well, Jets will need a few of these guys (and Cro) if they can't get one of the top CB's

Culliver is def an option for us. There is going to be a bidding war for both Maxwell and McCourty.

Cro is a Jet again as long as we offer him a 2-year deal at reasonable money.

The "to be avoided, except maybe Maxwell or Crabtree" squad

Well yeah all we need is another $25 million in cap space to sign your dream wish list.

Revis, Houston and Cobb by themselves is $40-45 million in base salary. How many first round picks do you want to give the chiefs for Houston? 2? 3?

Justin Huston has a pretty franchise tag...we going to give up two first round picks and an insane amount of money to get him?

As for the others...we can afford one top tier guy but keep in mind we still need to give Wilkerson a contract, just because no one has been talking about that doesn't mean he is going to take a cheap contract. I think we need to scratch the Revis idea (I also think Revis coming back is silly), we could get Cromartie and Flowers at probably half the cost of Revis and although they are old (Revis is also getting old) they should be able to hold up for another year or two and mentor our younger CBs. Cobb I know a lot of people are hot on right now but he is basically a rich mans Kerley (don't bother showing stats as he played with Rodgers and Kerley has spent his career so far with Sanchez and Geno) but if we want a FA WR we should look at Maclin as he would be a good compliment to Decker and likely wouldn't cost much more than the 9m per year that Cobb is looking to get. TJ Yates has not been very good in the NFL but atleast you were thinking outside the box with that one.

Don't like Rolle. Another Safety who can't cover anyone.

Not all of this will happen but looking at numbers and with about $55million to spend I think these moves could happen in free agency.  A player or two might be switched but I think this is what will happen and how much we spend.

$55 million to spend:

1.  QB:  Matt Moore or Brian Hoyer at about $5 million. (Not bad competition guys.  Similar type players would be good hold the fort guys until we find a qb).

$50 million to spend:

2.  WR Torrey Smith or Michael Crabtree $7 million (not thrilled with either.  Would love Cobb but don't think he comes.  We need someone opposite Decker and Harvin is too much at $10 million.  Not bad players will help but doesn't thrill me.  With this we will cut Harvin and free up $10 million.)

$43 million after signing plus $10 million for cutting Harvin.

$53 million to spend:

3.  RB sign Spiller at about $5 million or resign Powell at 4 million.  Maybe add another veteran or draft another rb at a reasonable price.

$48 million to spend

4.  Oline:  Orlando Franklin at 7 million. If we don't get him then Carpenter or Boiling at about 5 million.

$41 million to spend:

5. Tight end:  I believe we will sign a veteran at about 3 million or so.  Maybe Fasano and we cut Cumberlan.  So it'd be a wash in money.

6. DL with the loss of Kenrick Ellis and probably Douzable the Jets will look to sign to veterans at the right price.  I think Langford for 2 or 3 million and Canty for the same.  It could be others but people who I see linked now.

$36 million to spend

7.  LB I am not sure of all the free agants and what is being rumored or linked.  I'm not sure but this is who I have heard earlier but other people could be who we sign.  I think Sam Acho from the Cardinals will come for $5 million and Jason Wordlis for $7 million will come.  Again with the release of Trent Cole and Lofton on the trading/cutting block this could change.

$24 million left

8.  CB There are a number of people linked here.  I think we will sign Kareem Jackson at $8 million and Cromartie for $4 million.  Players can change here and probably will but I think this is where we start.

$12 million left

9. Safety

I think we sign a vetran for about 2 or 3 million.  Maybe we resign Landry or someone similar to him.

$9 million left

I think the $9 million we have left we use to sign Mo Wilkerson to an extension.  I don't think all these moves will happen.  That'd be a pipe dream.  I do think the money will be similar to what we spend on each position.  Instead of signing 1 or 2 at linebacker we might spread that money and sign three guys.  I wish we could do all of these moves I think we'd be a competitive team with them but I think it is a blueprint.  I also think if we make all of these moves we might release some guys or rework some contracts.  I can see Dbrick reworking his contract to give us some more money.  Wondering what others think.

MAXWELL AND MCCOURTNEY PLEASE.

Financially when discussing Revis and Maxwell and McCourtney we are going to spend top dollar.

What about a scenario of Culiver, and T. Williams for about 12-15 mil combined and then get McCourtney at whatever the price is.?

Yes well, the team wouldn't suck. Houston isn't feasible, already over it.

Please don't tier these nobodies with Revis. That lesser players will see similar money, maybe, is a reason to go after Revis rather than avoid him.

This is a pretty good breakdown but you need to reserve about 5mil for rookie contracts and you should want to have about 4-5 mil left over for in season emergencies.

I like your list, too.  If it were me I would not sign any of your WR's or RB's (maybe Powell for low money) and look to the draft to fill those holes. Or hope Evans can show something this year. I think the money that's saved there may be needed in the secondary since my gut feel is you're underestimating what it's going to cost to fill CB/Safety holes with decent talent.

I disagree about Revis. Corners hit the wall very abruptly like WR's and RB's. This is the worst possible time to sign him. Too many other good options out there. Kareem Jackson, Perrrish Cox, Cro.

Bulaga is a guy I wanted the Jets to draft, but he is way to injury prone. That won't improve with age.

I have always felt Rolle is a cancer. The Cards let him walk years ago for a reason and he ran his mouth to the press a lot when the Giants have struggled.

I like the rest of the list, including Ellis. I'd really like to see him and Snacks resigned.

You don't want to get locked into a 6-year deal with Revis this stage of his career. Rolle is overrated and past his prime.

Ok so some things happened today.  Lets update now that they happened.

The wr postion was about what I said but it was Marshall not the other two.  I expect us to cut Harvin so that leaves us at 58 million after those moves.

The signing of Harris took me by surprise as well as the amount.  That being said it leaves us at 51 million going into free agency.  I don't see another receive being signed unless it is for a million or two along the way.  I still see Wordlis, Trent Cole or someone like that being signed along with another inside backer or two at a few million to backup Harris and Davis and play special teams.

It was an interesting day and the start of an intersting few weeks.  I think Matt Moore will be the qb.  You connect the dots to Bowles and Marshall and Moore.  Be very interesting.
