Plaxico Burress has a "classic sprain," of his left ankle, the wide receiver said after having an MRI Friday morning according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.

He said the ankle was sore, irritated and little bit painful, but would have been able to play in the Jets' Monday night preseason opener - if it were the regular season.

Jets coach Rex Ryan announced that Burress (right, photo by Julio Cortez, AP) will be held out until Wednesday, as they to try to get his left ankle 100%. He rolled it running routes with Santonio Holmes over a week ago.

"This is a sprain, this is preseason," Burress said. "Rex’s mindset is we have a chance to get 100%, this one time miss (the game) and get 100%. We got a chance to do it right, let’s do it right."

Can certainly understand any Jets fan concerns.

But...any player running routes on untaped ankles can end up with an injury like this.

Yet...it happened to Plaxico...so its assumed to be due to him being old and rusty. Rusty he definitely is. Old...maybe...maybe not...we'll see :)

well sprains come in different levels some sprains can aggrevate a player all season. Some heal relatively quickly. But usually when swelling is involved its not just a trivial sprain and thats why they did an MRI to make sure there was no damage. Lets hope this is not a sprain that hampers the guy all year or has the chance of getting worse. This is where age becomes a big problem in the recovery process.
