The New York Jets have waived WR DaMarcus Ganaway.  The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Ganaway (WR/6-2/185/Kentucky Wesleyan/Indianapolis, IN) was signed to a reserve future contract with the club (1/17/12).  He finished his career at Kentucky Wesleyan with 214 receptions for 2,653 yards and 22 touchdowns, starting 34-of-40 games.  He did not play football in 2011.

Not that it really matters all that much, as you're hardly talking about all-world talent with those January future contract signings, but you have to wonder what exactly changes a team's mind about a player over the course of a few months where they've never seen him even complete an offseason workout, never mind actually practice. That always kind of struck me as odd.

It's not just that he's my cousin. It's that Tannenbaum consistently destroys and depletes this roster's talent. First a legit #1 like Braylon, and now this? Wtf man it's intolerable;

The guy comes from a small school and didn't even play in the league following college last year. People like him get cut all the time with no fanfare. Even teams with injuries during the season at a position still cut people simply because they feel they are not good enough to play. It's April, we have plenty of opportunities to sign undrafted free agents who we feel better about than Ganaway.

And we're not doing Ganaway any favors keeping him on the roster if we don't intend to at least give him a chance to win a roster spot, merely because he's a warm body.
