Have to disagree Gore and Lynch arent interchangeable....both of those guys are huge reasons they're in the title game.

Sure, they're superior. But nobody is drafting halfbacks with the top pick any more. It has changed dramatically. Backs are no longer any where near the top of the salary structure of a lotf of teams. Gore and Blount's big late runs were against what amounted to "box and 1" defenses looking to shut down running plays. The safety who was back in both instances totally whiffed on the tackle allowing huge plays in each instance.

There won't be a running back drafted in the first round this year either.

Lynch yes,  Gore is part of an entirely different argument.  The 49ers are pretty stacked when healthy on offense(Crabtree, Davis, Boldin) and Kapenick is a guy who can rush for 100 yards in a game.   When you have that many decent weapons,  a guy like Gore is bound to have good games.    The Seahawks have become a team who really rely on Lynch to have big games.

I thought I saw somewhere during the Pats game that they had 27 runs to 17 passes at some point when the game was still competitive.

Obviously the found a weakness in the Colts run defense and took full advantage of it which is what the good teams do.

Seattle running game is their bread and butter. They have been like for quite awhile now and you can do that when you have a back like Lynch. Just because it is "passing league" doesn't mean you can't win if you don't have an "elite passing game" Would it honestly surprise anyone if Seattle won the Super Bowl ? They have a really good defense, a "balanced offense" where they rely on Lynch but if when needed Wilson can go and make plays, which is what you want.

Gore's vision and ability to get small is what separates him from other backs. He's one of, if not the best at gaining positive yards every time he touches the ball.

But Gore has been having huge games his entire career.  Long before Kap and long before Harbaugh.  Way before the days of being "stacked".

And the its not like the cupboard is dry in Seattle.  (Tate, Harvin, Baldwin, Rice, Carlson) - is not bad at all.  Plus, Wilson is someone who can give you 100 yards rushing in a game too.

And all of them ran the ball heavily to advance to the next stage.

BECAUSE THEY WERE AHEAD! DO YOU WATCH FOOTBALL? ARE YOU F__KING THIS THICK? YEAH, JUST HAND THE BALL OFF 40 F___ING TIMES YOU AND DAN DODDERING F___ING DIERDORF AND JOE F__ING THEISSMANN, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

We need to be able to pass the ball effectively. If you do not understand this YOU ARE AN IDIOT!!!!!

What games do you consider must wins that Geno did poorly in?

What games would you say meant nothing in which Geno did well?

5-4 after the break, Have to win the next 3, he was awful.

6-8, mathematically ELIMINATED, mean nothing, he played adequately

Its right there, When the games mattered, he was awful, when they didnt, he was adequate.

Simple.

You realize its entirely possible that Wilson wont be asked to do anything throughout this entire postseason and the Seahawks could win the Super Bowl. Their defense is that good.

I'm starting to think the only thing simple is you and the way you see things.

Thats fine and always your perogative. You asked and I supplied. thats all I can do. How you interpret that data, I have no contol over.

It was a fun discussion though, and look forward to the next one.

First off, you're wrong, it wasnt because they were ahead.  All these teams established the run out the gates and never really had to go to the passing game.  Maybe you didnt watch the games?

Secondly, of course you need to pass the ball effectively.  Did I say different?

Relax sexy.  You seem uptight.

There's no magic formula for winning playoff games. Win and advance however possible.

Agreed.  Just making an observation that all the teams that advanced, ran the ball significantly better than their opponent as well as played great D.

"Establishing the run" in the NFL of 2014 is as important as a man powdering his wig or a woman wearing a corsett. It's crap dumb writers and stupid announcers parrot because it sounds great.it's also bullsheet that mattered in 1975.  The best paid player on every team, including the Jets, is a QB, not a back spare maybe the Vikings. And right up there is the blind side tackle and the primo wideout(also true of the jet-Sanchez, Brick, and Santonio). If you want to say nonsense to make you feel better about sheety geno Smith making a mess in 2014, good for you. You are WRONG.

What were the Saints supposed to do on Saturday? Sling it around in the rain against the best pass defense in the league?

It just so happened this weekend defenses and the running game were more important than the passing game. The playoffs are a completely different animal than the regular season.

WTF are you talking about?  Nobody is arguing that passing is not important nor am I arguing that QB is not important.  It's a passing league and QB means everything.  As an observation, the teams that advanced, won by running the ball.  That is 100% fact.  So relax and stop screaming at nothing...just deal with it.  Running and defense were winners on Sunday, not airing it out.  Fact.

You have to understand that anything you say that is positive about running the ball will bring out the groundandpoundanoia in people. They're likely to get upset.

Find a way to get Jimmy Graham more than 1 8 yard reception. It was a tall order to win vs. that defense on the road in the rain. But the idea they were suddenly going to run for 200+ yards was more ridiculous.

And further if Colston doesn't take stupid pills there was an outside shot at Brees tying the game.Every game is different with different sets of variables. the constant is teams that pass effectivelya re better able to score and win. Tthe "establishing the run" really worked great for the Panthers at the goalline(try to either run wide or pass ONCE, IDIOTS!)  Further the Broncos clinched the game by completing a 3rd and 17 pass late in the game. I guess all should've run the ball in each situation? Again, down, distance, score, clock and conditions all play a role as to whether you pass or run. The mindless "establishing the run" meme is really crap.

Its dependent on a game by game basis. Overall yes it's extremely difficult to make the playoffs with a bad passing game, but once the playoffs start and you're playing good teams....sometimes the pass gets taken away and you have to find other ways to win. There's no magic formula for the playoffs. We've seen Brady look like sh*t the past few years against us and Baltimore. Coincidence that Blount goes for 170 and 4TD's? Maybe...

And I'll take Cam on a sneak 10 times out of 10 at the goal line. Still dont understand why he didnt go over the pile.

That was a very weird sequence. If you're gonna run Newton at least try to go wide once and have him outrun or run some guys over going for the pylon.
