We're not actually in the interview rooms, and seeing how the candidates perform. All of the stuff in this article is merely speculation. Maybe minorities have happened to suck more, on average, in interviews. Not due to race, of course. Some people just suck at interviews.

I would be surprised if David Shaw would not get a job pretty quick if he wanted one in the NFL.

I think it’s the fact that there’s only like one David Shaw out there and one Eric Bieniemy that makes you aware of how problematic the hiring process seems to be at the upper levels of football. No one person has to be overtly racist for this condition to exist, but the Good Ol Boy network is self-perpetuating and leads to inherently racist outcomes.

To this end, it’s entirely possible that a younger, black candidate would fail to impress a 70 year old owner whose interpretation of “head coaching material” invokes a Belichick/Bill Parcells clone.
