Could we get on with the draft!

Leaving when your pick is approaching and not PM'ing your pick should result in your pick getting taken by someone else.

There is a 2 hr timer for a reason. We will honor it and at this point I tried to find replacment owners with no success.

They signed another career back up? sweet. Why pass on legit RB because they have 3 scrubs on the bench? Im sure they have mor epressing needs but it's not a horrible pick.

That wasn't my point. I think Williams is a great pick... but not for the Vikings. Think of Taylor's situation to that of Lamont Jordan's. He was behind Jamaal Lewis, and then showed something. He got out of that situation, and will have a good career. Will I say he'll rush for 1000 yards? Hell no! He'll probably get 800 though, with a ton of receiving yards.

It is going a bit slower... we've had a couple people bail, and all that... I don't like it, but we've gotta deal with it.

Whats the big deal? It's a mock draft . I mean we aren't holding anybody up from having sex are we? Then anything else is trivial.

Lol.

See,I look at Taylor's situation as more of a Derrick Blaylock than a Lamont Jordan. Nice Change of pace back and spot starter; but he's not a Franchise back.

You may not agree with Childress, but here is the Chester taylor press conference:

Press conference transcript

Running Back Chester Taylor

Coach Childress: Next person I want to introduce to you is Chester Taylor. He is a free agent and played for the Baltimore Ravens. He also played at the University of Toledo; he had an outstanding career there. Had a chance to follow him through his college escapades, and I guess my recollection of him is playing Marshall with Chad Pennington and being 23 points down at halftime. I was talking to his college coach yesterday and he said, "We are going to get you the ball anyway we can. I want you to win this game for us." And he did. He had three touchdowns in the second half. Anyway, that catapults him into the NFL. Another recollection was of him running by me on the sidelines in a preseason game and I knew some of their running backs, and I was like, "Who in the (heck) is that guy," as he ran up the sideline, I think we were at the Lincoln. He's a good running back. He has multiple skills, can run between the tackles, can circle the defense, and has very good hands. Although he can catch passes thrown to him too. He can catch the football. So I'm going to introduce Chester Taylor.

Taylor: Hey everyone. I am really excited about this opportunity I have been given. I played behind Jamal Lewis for four years and standing on the sideline was just killing me a little bit but I did what I had to do.

Q: What are your thoughts on becoming a Viking?

A: I mean I enjoyed being with the Ravens. I'm glad they gave me the opportunity, but I felt like I wanted a fresh start so Minnesota is a great place for me right now. I'm just ready to get it started right now.

Q: Describe yourself as a running back?

A: I can catch the ball really well. Run out of the backfield, try to get the defense to mismatch up. I can also run well between the tackles. Like Coach Childress said, I can run outside as well, so I'm kind of versatile in that aspect.

Q: Is this offense good for you?

A: Yes, I believe I can run a good west coast offense. You have mismatches for the defense and try to bring something special to the table for the offense.

Q: Do you envision yourself doing the same as Bryan Westbrook.

A: Yeah I believe I could do the same thing Westbrook did. He caught a lot of passes out of the backfield. He lined up outside as a receiver as well. I can do that. Whatever I can do to make this team win, that's what I'm going to do.

Q: Did you learn from Jamal Lewis?

A: I learned a lot from Jamal, especially the one year he had 2,000 yards. I learned a lot like when to hit the hole, when to be patient. Blocking as well, I'm a much better blocker than when I came into the league, so my blocking got a lot better. I just try to improve myself every year.

Q: Do you feel like you could have gotten 2,000 yards?

A: I could if I had the opportunity. Luckily, I get the opportunity when I come here to see what I can do.

Q: Opportunity the mean reason?

A: Just getting out there and seeing what I can do. Being the go-to guy and being the right man. Going out there and taking it independently on me. I want the ball in my hands when it comes down to it.

Q: Is it nice to know you can move up the charts?

A: Knowing they had the same equal chance is great. With Jamal, I kind of figured they would keep him as a starter. Coming in here I get the opportunity like everybody else to get the starting job.

Q: Ever been in Minnesota?

A: I have never been in Minnesota but I heard it can get cold up here. But I'm used to that I'm from Detroit.

Coach Brad Childress

Q: Did you sign Chester Taylor with the idea he would get significant playing time?

A: Well I think we signed him with that in mind, but you always compete. Obviously I think we'll get his talents on the field. We were looking for a guy that we felt could be a higher-carries back, and I think he can do that.

Q: Does that become a factor in recruiting players like Chester Taylor or other offensive players?

A: For a guy like Chester Taylor, I think it's how many times does he get to put his hands on the football? It's really more about someone that can hand it to him.

Now, as for his abilty/inabilty to carry the load:

Here were Taylor's stats from game with at least 10 carries over the span of his career . . .

Rushes, Rushing Yards, Reeiving Yards, Total TD

10-45-25-0 vs ARI 2003

21-89-11-0 vs BUF 2004

18-78-18-0 vs PHI 2004

15-33-18-1 vs DAL 2004

16-61-24-0 vs NE 2004

23-139-25-1 vs CIN 2004

25-104-27-0 vs NYG 2004

11-32-24-0 vs NYJ 2005

19-59-26-0 vs PIT 2005

11-40-6-0 vs HOU 2005

20-59-14-0 vs DEN 2005

AVG: 17-67-20-0.18

Again, I think that with Childress' WCO, Taylor has every opportunity to put up the sort of numbers Westbrook did under Childress in Philly. Moore is an ideal guy for that system too. Add in Fason, and the possible return of Onterrio Smith....

The left side of the Vikings O line is VERY good.... but Birk has been injured a lot, so he's a bit of a question, they lost last year's starting RT in FA, and really don't have a ORG either. I think the Vikes gfeel they addressed the RB situation, and will look to take an LB and an O lineman in the first two rounds, unless they see a safety they like that falls to replace Chavous.

Max Jean Gilles was simply the BAP left. One of the few positions where the top ranked player was still on the board.

I wanted to go defense with Carpenter or Watson, believe me, this isnt what I wanted. I'm going BAP with this entire thing, I would have taken defense in the 1st 2 rounds if they were the BAPs.

I was thinking about him myself, as I would love to see the Jets get him at #35 for real, but I'm drafting for Houston. The one area Houston's OL seems to be ok is in run-blocking. Plus I don't think Kubiak would ever take a 360-lb OG. Great pick for the Jets.

Thanks for the pick...

Hopefully, we didn't screw it up too much, that was the guy you wanted, right?

As for my pick... the Lions have alot of needs. TE, as Marcus Pollard is in the last year of his deal, MLB, as Earl Holmes is in the last year of his deal, OT, DT, as Dan Wilkenson is retiring, CB, and someone who can provide a pass rush. I figured hey, why not get the best MLB in the draft? Granted, some people have Hawk playing inside, but he's not a pure MLB. Jackson is perfect. And, they'll be playing the Tampa 2 in Detroit, and he'll be a huge factor in that. With Boss Bailey, Teddy Lehman, and (god willing) the signing of Julian Peterson (rumor has it, it's between Detroit and Cleveland), that'd make up a damn good front seven. With James Hall (who was hurt most of last year), Shaun Rogers, Marcus Bell, Kalimba Edwards, Shaun Cody, Cody Redding, Boss Bailey, Earl Holmes, Teddy Lehman, and now D'Qwell Jackson... that's one hell of a unit. And, depth doesn't hurt, as the Lions linebacking core always seems to get injured.
