Nearly three weeks after the window closed on a long-term deal and nearly two weeks after the Raiders opened camp without running back Josh Jacobs, nothing is happening between player and team on a potential one-year deal.

The options are limited at this point: (1) Jacobs accepts $10.1 million for one season; (2) Jacobs and the Raiders work out an enhanced deal, with more money and/or a promise that he won't be tagged in 2024; (3) Jacobs skips all or part of the regular season; (4) the Raiders trade Jacobs and his one-year deal; or (5) the Raiders rescind the franchise tender and he becomes a free agent.

Option 5 could still happen. Whether the goal is to get the fans/media on board or to persuade owner Mark Davis that it's the right move to pocket $10.1 million and move on, the Raiders quite possibly are setting the table to plausibly say, "Well, we've tried everything. Let's let him go."Jacobs, we're told, is aware of the possibility and unconcerned about it. He knows that $10.1 million won't be there, if he's suddenly a free agent in late August or early September. But he would still have a plan. He would be inclined to take the best deal he could get from a contending team, starting with the Chiefs.Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Chiefs and Broncos are among the teams interested in Jacobs. And while the Broncos could be a considerable way from contender status, they'd be an option at the right price.

The Chiefs make the most sense, and create the most intrigue. Jacobs would become a new-age Marcus Allen, securing freedom from the Raiders and heading straight for their traditional arch rivals.Regardless, Jacobs's strategy is driven not by maximizing his pay in 2023 but by standing on principle. He continues to be upset that the Raiders failed to pick up his fifth-year option and then failed to make him a meaningful offer on a long-term deal after applying the franchise tag.The overriding vibe from the Raiders to Jacobs is that they want to go year-to-year under the tag, keeping him up to two more seasons before he's left to hit the open market with six seasons of NFL wear and tear.

There's still a chance he'll be on the open market after only four years — and that he'll impact the ever-shifting balance among the top-heavy AFC.

To me the intent of the Raiders is to run this guy into the ground then dump. He had 400 touches last year no doubt he has that again this year if he suits up for the Raiders. The two guys they needed to keep happy with Jimmy Glass coming in were this guy and Adams and they can't even do that. Jacobs is a durable player and without him the Raiders have no chance. Key to that division is keeping the ball out of Mahomes hands and there is no way the Raiders are doing that without Jacobs

IF he goes FA.   Sign him to a 1 year deal, even if it's 8-10.

Put in the contract, "We will not use the Tag on you"   He knows he is going FA.    That gets him what he wants, allows you to ease Hall back from his ACL, and when he leaves as a FA after the season, you get a comp 3rd rounder.

If he becomes a free agent, none of the other 31 teams would be willing to sign him to a multi-year deal?  Pipe dream.

That was the plan last year to run him in the ground.   They didn’t expect him to have year he had .   This year he signs his tender he will not be the  sole feature back.   You don’t keep five rbs and a Fb on your 53 man roster if you plan to run just one guy .   ( it’s poor roster management)  He might get most Carry’s but he will share the load with Zamir White 23 years old  looks like a total different Rb this year ( looks like he spent all offseason in the weight room) He has legit 4.4 speed been trucking a lot defenders all camp.   Sincere McCormick 22 years old is another impressive Rb who punishes would be tacklers.  B brown looks like heading to practice squad unless j Jacobs get moved.   Old man Brandon Bolden should be cut saves like 2.6 million but he’s a John Mcdaniels guy - going to make that playing special teams just.    Abdullah will be receiving back.

josh Mcdaniels would have no problem going with Zamir White, Sincere McCormick, Brittain Brown , Abdullah , and Brandon Bolden ( glorified special team and part time coach for young guys) .   Jakob Johnson as the Fb .   The Pr move would be bad to let him go.( after they jettison fan favorite Derek Carr)   . No way they let him go to Chiefs or Broncos.  They trade him to nFc team .   Have to say this front office don’t care( cold as ice)  they have a price they are willing to pay and they aren’t over paying anyone .    Not afraid to walk away from a player.

I cannot even fathom the Raiders rescinding their franchise tag on Josh Jacobs. This is a fiery Miami Heat bud pipe dream.

Trading him becomes more a possibility each day. I think they front office would like to use that 10 million for other things . ( more help on defense)     They can’t let him go to the Broncos or the Chiefs because it would be nightmare. ( why can’t see them rescinding the tag they want to be able to control where he goes ) .    It’s a tricky situation you have to get the fan base  to believe you did everything to keep him , while was always your plan to go with your rb by committee.

The NFL trading market may be cool right now, but with the preseason about to get underway for most of the league this coming week, that could quickly change. With roster depth soon to be tested and injuries sure to mount, teams could find themselves looking for proven veterans to reinforce their lineups.Given the free-agency pool is nearly barren of established talent, swinging a trade is the best way to get a meaningful piece for the upcoming campaign. Several players stick out as potential trade targets due to their uncertain contract status, redundancy in their current lineup and other factors.

Las Vegas Raiders receive: 2024 third-round pick

The New York Jets have made some of the flashiest moves of the offseason—including the biggest splash by far in their trade for Aaron Rodgers—but they may not be finished adding stars just yet. Gang Green could continue building a superteam by trading for one of the best running backs in the league in Josh Jacobs.Despite being the NFL's reigning rushing champion, Jacobs failed to earn a long-term contract extension from the Las Vegas Raiders. His current employer instead opted to hit the back with a franchise tag, a decision that hasn't sat well with Jacobs. The 25-year-old has yet to sign the offer and is currently holding out of training camp.

With the deadline for a long-term deal having long passed and nothing but a one-year contract left to work toward, it's possible that the situation between Jacobs—who could sit out the entire season if he doesn't want to take the $10.1 million tag on the table—and the Raiders completely breaks down. There's a chance that Vegas opts to rescind the franchise tag entirely, remarkably letting him hit free agency following a year in which he recorded 1,653 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 340 totes.Rather than let that happen, the Raiders should be willing to get something in return for the star rusher. The Jets—who have the best odds of any rival franchise to land Jacobs in Bookies.com odds—aren't loaded with draft assets, but they do have a third-rounder available in 2024. Offering that to Las Vegas could be enough to get a deal done given the current circumstances.

Jacobs would instantly elevate New York's backfield to one of the league's deepest. The back would augment incumbent starter Breece Hall, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear midway through a breakout rookie campaign. His presence would allow Gang Green to ease Hall back into the lineup and reduce the workload for both star backs. Given the small championship window that is open for the Jets right now, giving up a third-rounder for this type of luxury would be well worth it.

They can’t trade him; he is not under contract. While they have his exclusive rights, until he decides to sign his franchise tender they can do nothing.
