ARodJetsFan
Essentially this amounts to nothing more than a slap on the wrist - but thought it was interesting none the less, since it apparently involved multiple players. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports, “The NFL is docking the Falcons a 2025 fifth-round pick for violating the league’s anti-tampering policy with Kirk Cousins, Darnell Mooney, and Charlie Woerner.” When asked about potential tampering violations back in May, Cousins said, “There’s not a whole lot there.” The league, clearly thinking otherwise, has decided there was enough to not only dock the Falcons a future draft pick but also fine the team $250,000 and general Terry Fontenot $50,000. At his introductory press conference with the team back in March, Cousins more or less admitted to tampering when he talked about having contact with the team and free agent signee Darnell Mooney before the official start of the league year. In a statement put out by the league regarding the Falcons’ violation, the NFL said, “While the [anti-tampering] policy permits clubs to engage with and negotiate all aspects of an NFL player contract with the certified agent of any prospective unrestricted free agent during the two-day negotiating period, any direct contact between the player and an employee or representative of the club is prohibited. This includes discussion of travel arrangements or other logistical matters, which the club acknowledges took place with regard to these three players.” NFL Player News: Latest Reports, Injuries, Transactions - Rotoworld - NBC Sports - NBC Sports
The Crusher
HAHA. Do NFL teams even have denominations that low? Losing $250,000 to an NFL team is like couch cushion change level. NFL so dumb, so corrupt. Goodell is a parody of himself.

Wit
The league figured that signing Cousins was punishment enough. The way they drafted a 26 year old QB and signed cousins too. They tampered for something they didn’t even need/want.

If Cousins doesnt pan out, they can move on and Penix would be ready in a couple years.

jamesr
The only thing they were found to have done wrong was contacting the player directly about travel arrangements and so forth. The actual contract side was found to be above board, they just weren't allowed to contact the players directly about traveling to the facility to sign said contracts after they were agreed.Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
Integrity28
Seems worth it. Not much of a penalty really.

jamesr
Small price to pay for moving on from Mariota and Mariota 2.0There was no tampering in the negotiation stage. The only issue was an administrative one, which is why the penalty is practically nothing.Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
