Reddick getting sued by former business partner…

I firmly believe that JD did not do the due dilligence required for this job. There were reasons why Philly didn't want to extend him.  There were reasons why he has moved around and nobody wanted him.  JD did not do his homework.

The Jets have always been lazy in this regard, no matter who the GM is.  It's high time we get a front office that does it's research in a professional manner and does so consistently.  We are lucky if JD does anything it seems.

Starting to believe that he should be replaced.  The Reddick thing was an obvious red flag and JD totally ignored it.  For what reason, I do not know?  But this was a bad one for him.

Or he just took a calculated risk thinking that if he wanted to make more money he wouldn't be dumb enough to sit out a whole season

He totally ignored all the signs and was negligent.  Why did Philly not want to pay him, despite his top tier play?  What has been his situation with other teams in the league?  College?  anything else, like acting like a mobster in weaseling his way out of a business deal?  THings that should have been known and considered by Douglas.  Sorry, but just like past Jets GMs, we've got another lazy one who does not check all the boxes in his decisions.  We deserve better.

Philadelphia just didn't want to meet his demands + they thought they were buying low: getting a younger player (Huff) about on par with Reddick, and whiffed far worse than the Jets did on the swap. Guaranteeing Huff two years at $17MM, while losing pro bowl edge Reddick, is a worse result than swinging and missing on a 3rd rounder 3 drafts into the future (the 2024 draft yet hadn't happened at the time of the trade).

Did Philadelphia not do their due diligence & not consider there were reasons the Jets didn't want to extend Huff? He can't even earn a starting job there, and weeks ago had already taken all Eagles stuff down from his social media accounts. Huff should get his first sack of the season this week (if not more), seeing how Watson's been getting sacked 5x a game this year, but that's a far worse blunder than taking a shot on Reddick.

Reddick may have been a summer holdout risk, but I don't know how anyone could think his unprecedented level of stupidity was likely. Of course Douglas wouldn't have done the trade again knowing what he knows now, but it's not like he has no relationships with anyone in the Eagles' FO.

Likely potential risk = 3rd round pick

Maximum potential risk = 3rd round pick + $14MM if Reddick showed up and then promptly went on IR

Potential reward = get a pro bowl/all-pro level edge rusher on a below-market contract for one year, with the player performing to get a big payday after the season. Lease with an option to buy. If they don't extend him, they get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick back the same year as the 3rd rounder traded away.

The thing that's exacerbated things is Jermaine Johnson sustaining a season-ending injury in their week 2 game, and the optics in terms of the fan base. I don't think the players care that much about Reddick tbh.

Anyway this transaction isn't even top 5 on Douglas's biggest whiffs. Zach, Becton, Mims, Tomlinson, D.Brown, Cook, Lazard, Lawson>Hendrickson, C.Davis, ...and oh yeah Robert Saleh. Jury's technically still out on Rodgers, but even a blind optimist would agree it's not looking too good; also it's possible that wasn't all him and Woody maybe put his thumb on the scale for that one once it became an option (if it continues to be a failure we'll see if Woody uses Rodgers as some of the grounds for firing him after the season).

I'm glad JD did his due diligence before trading for this guy. Otherwise we'd be in real trouble.

We overestimate how much these guys actually do. The Corley pick being another example. Denzel Mims with 10 minutes worth of questions would have uncovered he’d never left Texas before.
