124
I like Mangini a lot and I think he's going to do a lot of things here but why not consider him as the biggest reach? The guy was a DC for 1 season and before that just followed around Belicheck as as specialist and coached an Austrailian Football League team. He is a reach, hopefully one, and one that I believe, pays off.

Sperm Edwards
a pattern? no DC/OC experience... I just found it interesting that the one guy he chose to compare Herm favorably to was also a guy with no OC/DC experience...and who ironically has a better record than Herm despite inheriting a team with absolutely no one on defense. rajensen088
Mangini ,without a doubt. One year of being held 'accountable' after replacing Romeo Crennell as defensive coordinator produced the worst defensive Patriot showing since before the 1986 Patriot Super Bowl team. 5th most penalized NFL defensive unit in 2005 31st in pass defense 31st in defensive takeaways. Patriots 7th ranked defense under Romeo Crennell in 2004..... fell to 26th ranked defense under Mangini. Bellichek held Mangini accountable for his performance. No wonder he encouraged him to take the Jet HC job. No other team was interested in Mangini. His best friend in the world hired him (Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum). Eric Mangini is as qualified to be HC of the NYJ as Michael Brown was qualified to be Director of FEMA..... It's called cronyism.

Jetsfan80
What exactly did herm do to earn the job? The question is, what DIDN'T he do to earn the job. C'mon shutout, he was a little-known defensive backs coach for a team that won a Super Bowl only AFTER he and his unintelligble speech-making abilities left town. How didn't he deserve to take over the reins of a big-market NFL team?

When I get tired of this same old response....you got find a new argument. The teams are totally incomparable. RAC always had Ty. Mangini did not. RAC had a full compliment of LBers. Mangini lost Johnson and only had Bruschi for half a season and funny, the defense got better then. RAC is a better coach then Mangini, but he also been at for over 20 years longer. More importantly, 20 extra years in the company of Bill and Bill. Mangini is a reach. No doubt about it. Probably a better reach then for Herm, but a reach none the less.
