BoomBoomMancini
By the start of next year Colvin will be 30 Vrabel 32 Bruschi 34 Dillon and Samuel may be gone Harrison may be done Chad Jackson may not be the superstar that Patriots fans claim he will be. Gaffney, Caldwell, and Troy Brown.. underwhelming They have a 31 year old CB playing FS So.. They need help at CB(If they lose Samuel) OLB-Banta Cain is gone LB-Past their prime Saftey-Much needed WR-Replace Branch What they do have.. Best coach 2nd best QB Best Dline Very good Oline Maroney and Watson aren't studs yet though IMO.. They need to prove themselves.

Since 2001 the Pats have done this: 11-5** 9-7 14-2** 14-2** 10-6* 12-4* *Won the AFC East **Won the Super Bowl The Pats have been to 4 AFC Championship games in 6 years. They suck! Spudicus
Teams get their shot at the superbowl in clusters, you put a team together, with all the pieces and get a good 6 year window to win as many as possible. After that the quality of your team...either by free agency or age...begins to decline. So unless your in a weak division playoff appearances are shorter or rare. So you have to make the most of that time....since playing at a high level results in low draft picks and less of a chance to re stock the roster. Look at the cowboys, the packers the 49ers....all of them after their runs, long or short have wallowed in mediocrity only now to start clawing back up. The pats have made the most of their time, but you have to realize the peak was reached, they have an aging team with very little young talent. While the Jets and Bills both have young growing teams and the Dolphins....well I really don't like to kick someone when they're down.
PFSIKH
BoomBoom you bring up some valid points. IMHO the one area that needs to be addressed is linebacker. As you pointed out they are old. Assuming no impact additions are made, the team might have to go with a 4-3 more. Vrabel and Colvin are good, but Bruschi has lost a few steps. Alexander, Mays and Woods need to develop quickly. That is why it is not out of the question they go after Thomas or another big name FA LBer. Colvin was signed to an expensive contract when he signed. It is not out of the question. The next area is the defensive backfield. A healthy and pre-2005 Eugene Wilson would go along way to making the team better. James Sanders even started to show some of the potential that the Patriots saw in him when the team drafted him two years ago. If he progresses and Wilson can at least get on the field, the safety position could be anywhere from ok to very good. As far as Samuel goes, if this past season is the Samuel that shows up for the life of his contract..sign him up tomorrow. If the tat on his arm, "get paid" is the guy we get I fear he goes back to being OK Assante. The Patriots, in particular Bill has done more with less since about game 6 of the 2004 season. He has shown he can win with a corner back not named Ty. The important factor in this is the defense playing in front of them. I think the receiver position can take a back seat. As bad as Caldwell played, the D was a bigger factor in the playoff loss. Granted, if the status quo stays, the offense will be the inconsistent unit it was this year and that is not entirely the receiver's fault. Josh has to develop quicker and start calling a good game plan. The Colts game begged for a deep pass and not one was thrown. I doubt many were thrown in the first Colts loss either. The bottomline is the Patriots are still the team to beat in the East. Their soft underbelly is a little larger and easier to expose. They have flaws, but they still have enough pieces to make a run at a title. The team philosphy is win every year and have a chance at a title. As been said many times before, the two biggest pieces are still in place.

jetfan4hire
The Pats have one of the best QB's in the game in the prime of his carear. They are extremely talented and relatively young on the front line on defense. They have a solid OL. Thier coach is HOF material. They are armed with 2 1st rd picks this coming draft, and are among the best in the league in regards to their present salary cap situation. I love the idea of seeing the end of he Pats, but Im also realistic and fairly well informed about the NFL. Also I live in NE

You have no idea how good that Bills team is. And exactly how good is that D of theirs? Horrible. And that is with Clements and London Fletcher. Their OL is average at best and their D is terrible. The Bills have the makings of the offense that can be pretty good. However, I would bet more fans are hoping that Losman's best year was not the result of the soft AFC East schedule. Even with no changes, the Patriots are still the better team.
TaborJet
As long as the head coach and starting quarterback remain the same, they are the team to beat, bottom line.

CoachTsurfing
As far as the Pats go their window and every other teams window closes a little if they don't make it to the sb. As soon as the teams reload, retool, or whatever re you want to add they are back in the game. What makes the nfl good is every team could have a chance to make it there. Good point.....Patriots do need a strong draft class -- especially at linebacker and DB.... But don't forget this: The Patriots have knack for getting little known or seemingly "washed up" players that do big things for them Vrabel, Harrison, Gaffney, ect.... And, they have a Hall of Fame QB, still in his 20's.

Schobel is not even the best DL in the AFC East and as good as he was, they were about 25 yards better on rush defense then the Colts. BTW..that ain't good. A shutdown corner can just be replaced huh? There are about 20 teams with 20 or more million available. If the Jills were the one team with that they could make a serious move, but they are not. They have about 12 million more then the Patriots and they have some pieces to retain themselves.

Other than being drafted about 20 spots too high? You're right about Clements, that's why everyone is after him.
