Basically, I find it bothersome and tedious when people like you and others on this thread make some blanket statement disparaging Billboard Top 40 music for lesser-known, often lesser-quality music. Furthermore, you people (phoney hipster dufuses) think youre superior to the rest of us plebians because you CLAIM to be into some underground scene when the rest of us "sheep" look to ultra-lame MTV for guidance. One of you jagoffs even said "So the Game sells more records than __insert lame, obscure rapper here_______ does that make him better?" Uh, yeah, it does actually, considering thats how they measure musical acts, by record sales, radio airplay, and now MP3 downloads. I would respond but your reiterating the same empty rhetoric that you already spewed in my general direction. I guess if record sales are the only true indication of how good or bad a specific group is then the Back Street Boys are the greatest band to ever live. Better than the beatles or rolling stones.... The people that buy these CD's usually but them because of 1 song that they love getting played out on the radio 50x a day. Like I said before Eminem is one of the most talented lyricists ever but he admits that he makes garbage because garbage is what sells albums. It's teeny bopper stuff it isn't anything new buddy your just stuck in a viscious cycle. Sublime is okay, but my disdain for the dead singer pushes them over the edge. I'm a huge Doors fan, The Smiths, The Cure, The Clash, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles. I'm all over the place. Notice what's missing from this list? Anything made in the last 10 years. Radio has been unbearable. To be fair I do like some older stuff. The Clash are great. Eminem, who I cant stand as a rapper or as a person, probably did say that about his own music. Often times, homogenized celebrities will act as if they are into some hip "underground" scene as well so the rest of YOU people can think they're edgy and deserve street cred or some such BS. I look at the majority of celebrities with serious disdain...I couldnt care less if Eminem thinks he himself sucks and Talib Kweli is the best thing since sliced bread. Eminem is here to entertain ME, 50 Cent is here to entertain ME, The Game is here to entertain ME! Period! And if they really put forth the effort and make an enjoyable record...I will actually purchase their cd in lieu if downlaoding it illegally. But, as Ive said before, I wont be told by anyone that I am some sheep stuck in a vicious cycle because I like SOME radio-friendly music. Ive heard most of that other sh*t you speak of and I think it sucks. Did it ever occur to you that people like me are perfectly happy to not know who the F Talib Kweli is? True, but the problem is, too many people believe that only sales = talent. In most cases, it just means there's a lot of gullible morons out there. Not sure what I think about that at their age but out of the fifteen or so shows I have seen over the years I have never been disappointed. Interested in hearing the new CD as other than a tune here or there they haven't really come out with anything in a long while that was up to their early standards. Hasn't been since the Nirvana movement came along and wiped the slate clean, only to be replaced by badly packaged imitations. There is some decent stuff out there to be sure, but nothing new or different. Art has left the music industry. Image has taken over. If Ashlee Simpson can become a top 40 mainstay, then I'm getting sattelite radio. There's got to be something that won't make me lose I.Q. points as it burrows into my auditory canals. Video killed the radio star. J-Lo and Brittany, Ricky "Menudo", Gwen Stefani, Fred Durst...and most of the wanna-be teen idol scream rockers, they all suck. Alot of the stuff that you can download from the album seems like not polished up stuff that would be ready for release so I'll be alittle optimistic here.
