Morrissey
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3896877 Tejada charged with lying to Congress ESPN.com news services WASHINGTON -- Miguel Tejada has been charged with lying to Congress about steroids. The Washington Post reported federal prosecutors accused Tejada of making misrepresentations to Congressional staffers during an interview focusing on the prevalence of steroids in baseball. The charge came in "a criminal information," a document that can only be filed with the defendant's consent, according to the report. Tejada, who now plays for the Houston Astros, is scheduled to appear at 11 a.m. Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, court officials said. Prosecutors did not charge Tejada with lying about allegations concerning his own use of performance-enhancing drugs, according to the report. However, they have alleged that Tejada gave false statements to Congressional staffers regarding his conversations with another player about steroids and human growth hormone. Rogers next. Better that tta-Bernie Madoff runs a Ponzi scheme. he should be going to jail for some time. The Feds have their own intergenerational Ponzi scheme called Social Security. Suspect most scammers are amateurs compared to Uncle Sam. Tejada is a fool for lying under oath. But Congress as bigger fools to care whether any ballplayer is using steroids. Are we supposed to feel safer now that a shortstop gets a criminal record?

Lil Bit Special
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601079&sid=ayCgm4bgz594&refer=home Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to Congress about performance-enhancing drug use in Major League Baseball. Tejada entered his plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Kay at a hearing today in Washington. Tejada was accused of “unlawfully, willingly and knowingly” failing to tell everything he knew about an unidentified player’s use of steroids and human growth hormone during meetings with the congressional investigators in August 2005, U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Taylor said in a criminal information filed yesterday. Asked by the judge if he still wanted to enter a guilty plea after being explained his rights, Tejada, dressed in a charcoal suit, white shirt and blue tie, said “Yes, your honor.” Today’s plea comes just days after three-time Most Valuable Player Alex Rodriguez admitted that he used steroids from 2001 to 2003. Other players linked to performance-enhancing drugs include home-run leader Barry Bonds and seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens. Tejada, who has also played for the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles, gave false statements about conversations he had with another player about the use of steroids and HGH, according to court documents. He wasn’t accused of lying about taking the banned substances. The charge, making a misrepresentation to Congress, is a misdemeanor. The case is U.S. v. Tejada, 09mj77, U.S. District Court, District of Columbia (Washington).
