yea we were talking about that in Rex's PC thread SJ, watching Rex you could see his wheels turning after being asked on how he could use him...he clearly wants him

sorry I repeated myself like a man after eating a Pastrami sandwich with horseradish

I did not get that at all. He actually talked about him a little first and then before he went into detail he asked if he could talk about him. I think that was a joke because in the past he has gone too far talking about guys not on the team. If Rex believes what he said then Adalius is a bad fit. He said Thomas is not so great at LB, DE or S, but gets to be good when you move him around. The Jets needed a pass rush specialist (and got one with Taylor) not an everydown guy to move around and based upon his age and performance lately I'd say Thomas is past his prime. I'd rather see what guys like Westerman and Basped have to offer.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of Westermann this year-the question is who's spot would an Adalius Thomas take?

My point is that Adalius Thomas doesn't have a spot to take. Based on what Rex said, if he's not on the field all the time to be moved around he's much less valuable and with the Jets he wouldn't be on the field all the time. A luxury we don't need and at 33 he looks washed up.

I generally agree with this philosophy, and I have a feeling that the Jets are gauging what they have in Westerman and Basped right now vs. how much Thomas is asking for. I think it'll come down to what they really think of those guys - and Taylor.

But the Jets seem like they're really built to win right now, and I'm sure Rex sees AT as a valuable reserve at a number of spots. This is one of "his guys."

I kinda take Rex at his word - that the Jets will be #1 on defense whether or not AT joins the team. If Thomas does come here, it'll be on the Jets terms.

I think we have a better chance of bringing coles back then signing a. thomas. nothing is for certain, but he jets are entertaining the idea of bringing him back.

I agree with this assessment Coach-more of a need at this point

Adalius's odds are better. He's Rex's guy, whereas Rex doesn't know Coles.

I think the Jets are just keeping the lines of communication open with Coles - and it could very well be his agent contacting them. I don't think you see Coles here unless there's an injury to one of the Jets top three guys. Edwards, Cotch, Holmes, and B. Smith are all locks to make the roster. The last guy has to be able to contribute on specials. Clowney's a space holder, but Coles wouldn't be much -if at all- better.

Gotta figure guys like Allison and Larry Taylor are in the mix there as return men, too. Britt Davis is having another solid May. Etc.

how did he look last year Ed, does he still have anything left in the tank in your opinion?

It was hard to tell Jim.

Thomas and BB got into it early in the season and things went down hill from there. Thomas wasnt happy with the way he was being used in the scheme.

The motivation will be there because you have to figure that Thomas will be out to prove the naysayers wrong.

Rex was asked yesterday in his presser about signing Thomas and before answering he looked at Tanny and asked 'Can I talk about that?'

Odd comment unless something is actually going on.

maybe he was just unsure about tampering? I know it's not but he probably wanted to be safe.

Our third WR at this point would be Clowney??? I don't think he's going to make much of an impact and the staff knows this. B. Smith now has the role of running the wildcat or seminole or mizzou. whatever you want to call it. Side note here, Smith also has the ability to throw which Leon didn't. The real question is does Coles have anything left or more to give them then clowney does. I say yes.

If A. Thomas agrees to a little less money I think he will be here. Rex is going to stack as many defensive players he can get a hold of.

IDK coach Rex seems really enamoured with this kid LBer Reamer from Alabama

Reamer's a great kid but I can't see him being much more than a ST with the Jets.

Which in all fairness, that is something we definitely need. We saw how ST eff ups can cost us a game against the fins, just like Offensive and Defensive eff ups can.

We lost a couple very quality STers last year and I personally would like to see guys like Reamer and Basped make the time, because they'll be balls out every play on ST whereas I don't see vets like Thomas wanting it that much. I could be wrong, as I don't know Thomas' thinking, but it'd be nice to have some of these guys make the team. Especially with Basped's ability to be a 3rd down specialist.

Nice post BJ. Parcells always said ST was 1/3 of the game.

Thanks man. And it's nice ya brought up Parcells, because he's the reason I always payed attention to special teams and believed how important it was.

The best thing and my favorite thing about STs is that it's 100% all about how hard you work and how well you're coached. You don't have to have the best athletes, like you do on Offense or Defense, but if you've got the right coaching and players who know where to be and when to be there, you're gonna have a good unit. Which is why I'm loving what I hear about this Reamer kid.

I agree, and I'd be okay with that. Jets need special teamers. This is a kid who's gotten by on smarts, knowing the system and his place in it. Westoff could definitely use a couple overacheivers who know where they're supposed to be on the field.

Definitely agree. Been saying the same thing about the last WR spot, too. Need guys who excel on specials.

I can agree with all this, but there are a couple of problems.

1. Ginn didn't beat the Jets ST because they didn't know where to be, he beat them because Woodhead was too slow to the corner. Special teams requires athletes too. In fact, I think it may be even more important. Many times guys who aren't ready can make a name on specials. I always remember Jerry Holmes as a punt cover guy, he was a beast.

2. The spot everybody is talking about giving the kis is Lance Laury's spot and that guy is a flat special teamer.

Rex has already talked up Wilson, Reamer and Basped on the special teams drills
