No topic about the judge ruling in the players favor?

The NFL owners will NOT receive TV revenue(4 billion I think) for games cancelled in the 2011 season. The owners lose a ton of leverage here. This is good news.

Games cancelled is one thing................what about replacement players???

You cannot have replacement players in a lockout, only a player strike.

Exactly.

And, yes, this is a huge ruling and the only proper one.

Once the owners agreed to maximize revenue on behalf of the owners and players, the owners couldn't cut a side deal with the networks which benefitted the owners.

Even if there is an appeal, the time to get the appeal heard and decided would be well into the 2011 season.

Adam Caplan from FoxSports.com has an excellent update on a judges ruling that will prohibit NFL owners from taking TV money in the event of a work-stoppage.

U.S. District Court Judge David Doty overruled special master Stephen Burbank’s recent ruling that the owners could use the $4 billion in television money they had stashed away as a potential work-stoppage fund should the collective bargaining agreement expire midnight (ET) Thursday .

In essence, Doty ruled the NFL violated the CBA and called for a separate hearing to assess the damages that should be awarded to the players.

The NFL released this statement:

“As we have frequently said, our clubs are prepared for any contingency, this decision included. Today’s ruling will have no effect on our efforts to negotiate a new, balanced labor agreement.”

This move levels the playing field a bit and hopefully moves the scales in the direction of getting a deal done.

Here is a discussion topic about this from our NFL Forum.

I wouldn't think Goodell is upset about this. Jerry Jones and Jerry Richardson, on the other hand....

Think Jerry Jones has a sh*tload of debt service on his art museum/stadium, and would like to play a season.

Jerry Richardson is a useless dick who wanted to wallow in that TV cash and not pay players' salaries for a season.Only a dick insults the advertising icon of his business like Richardson did to Peyton Manning.

Big picture; big market owners are tired of sharing with the Mike Browns of the world, the small market owners, who bought in cheap like Richardson or have held their franchise forever in their families, like Bidwill,Wilson and Brown .

Have to feel sorry for the owners on this one.

They own the product. And yet they cannot benefit from it even if they do not provide the product. Who would have thunk! :)

They may own the product. But the players arent pieces of meat either. These guys give up their bodies week after week year after year like gladiators. How many owners you hear dieing from a football related injury?

I think you should re-read his post and then look for the thing flying way over your head. :P
