Learning how to win

Bottom line up front......Successful teams know "how" to win. Heard this convo on Mike and Mike today about the Raiders and how they are starting to turn that franchise around by learning how to win. Yesterday was yet another example of the Jets failing to do what needs to be done to get the W. After trailing in the 4QTR they take the lead only to let up a 96 yard kick return and give a quick 3 an out on offense. Any team who was bound for success would of easily stopped the kickoff, took the ball back and killed the clock. I think another example of failing to learn how to win was the Week 1 game against the Bengals.

Now looking ahead with many young players on this team that are bound to be here for a while, the Jets need to start learning with W's down the stretch. I know the knee jerk morons who want to "lose out" to gamble on some top 5 pick that they think will solve all their problems, but more importantly the Jets need a winning mentality. We can not go 3-13 every year for picks, ask the Browns how that's working out. The Jets may not make the playoffs but they need to play with heart, determination and learn how to win. It starts next week with LA, bye then on to our cheating Foes. Season may be over for the playoffs, but this team has so much more to play for then meets the eye.

Disagree, OP.

The guys who are playing well right now know who they are and know it's not their fault they are losing.  Next year when we unload these underperforming vets with bloated contracts, this will be an entirely different team.  (hoping for an new HC too of course).  Our good young players will not dispair so rapidly as all that.

It's up to Mac to separate with losers from the winners and I pray he is up to it.

Raiders are learning how to win with a young QB, who they have started to build around. The Jets need to do the same with Petty or Hack, instead of mastering losing with Fitzpatrick.

At this point, not opposed to this. If they believe he is the future let the young man lose. If he proves to stink, you know you need to start searching again or play Hack.

Our head coach doesn't fully understand the game of football and clock management our team lacks discipline we dont have an NFL calibre QB want to win need to fix a few things.

My worry is that Bowles will go someplace else and become a good coach. Francesa brings up Parcells a lot.

Are you referring to Revis and Fitz? Who is a vet who is underperforming? Forte has been great, Mangold is being Mangold before he got hurt. Decker will return and contribute. We are playing a lot of young guys out there on D and in the receiving corps.

*Revis, 6m dead money so that’s one.

*Fitz, sadly 5m dead money, that’s two

*Mangold, 9m cap hit but 0m dead money, that’s three

*Giacomini, 5m cap hit and 625k dead money, that’s four

*Jarvis Jenkins, 3.75m cap hit and 750k dead money, that’s five

*Davis Harris, 6.5m cap hit and 0m dead money, better a year too soon than a year to late, that’s six

*McLendon, 3.875 cap hit but 1.75m dead money so that’s iffy

*Gilchrist, 6.6m cap hit and 1.25m dead money so that’s iffy (replaceable?)

*we’re stuck with Skrine and his 8m cap hit and his 5m restructured dead money

*Clady with his 10m cap hit and 500k dead money is iffy (restructure/replaceable?)

So, lots of room to get rid of the dead wood, IMHO, and turn the culture around.

McClendon has played great, Clady has been solid, Jenkins is cheap, not getting rid of Mangold. So again, Revis and Fitz, we get it guy.

And, if he turns out to be "it", you don't need that high draft pick quite so desperately anymore as you have a guy who can play at the most important position in the game. :-)
