There was a $5,000 price on Tim Tebow's head

The only thing that's funny about it is the magnitude of Nevin Shapiro's douchyness. The little nerd that paid football players to hang out with him is in jail whinning because none of the said players will come to his aide. What a bitch? He should burn for this.

Why? The players broke the rules and the coaching staff knew about so the school is going to get in trouble over it plain and simple. Luke did the same sh*t that Shapiro did he just never got put in jail for something else. Shapiro is looking out for himself now just like the players, fans and school. You reap what you sow.

I personally think the NCAA should give UM the toughest penalty that's ever been handed down in college football.

That's also because you're a Notre Dame fan.

I'm not sure how punishing Miami players of today for infractions caused by Miami players of past years does anyone any good. Punish the school somehow and make it okay for the players to transfer without having to sit out a year if they want. That's a stupid rule anyway.

This whole investigation is likely to go on for many months. A large majority of the claims made by Shapiro are unsubstantiated and this man cannot be taken at his word for anything. I'm sure that there were some players guilty, but even over the last 4 years they've drastically cut down Shapiro's influence and the NCAA has already begun clearing players (Robert Marve, etc) who have been accused of the exact same things as some of the Canes.

This article spells it out pretty well - http://allabouttheu....ate-his-claims/

Maybe it's slightly wishful thinking but the article makes a lot of good points.

Edit: Also, this guy is going to have a rough time in prison now that hes known as a rat. Uncle Luke urged everyone to fight to make sure the guy remains part of the general population. He's a little bitch with a major inferiority complex who has incentive to lie to try and bring down everyone with him. The lowest of the low.

I struggle to find any humor in any part of this situation.

The fact UM is in trouble over their bs they've been getting away with for years is ******* priceless humor. I wish they would have made the players in the 80's and 90's take their test in front of NCAA officials, half the ******* retards couldn't pass 2nd grade.

I agree, I don't think the players that didn't break any rules should be punished and they should be able to transfer but the players, coaches and staff the were involved should be banned from NCAA sports and the school shouldn't be allowed in any bowl games or on TV for at least 20 years :) ok maybe not that long.

It's interesting that people don't realize (or just refuse to acknowledge) that this crap goes on at most of the schools out there. UM is susceptible because of its location and the lifestyle. This is only the first one of this size.. won't be the last.

Yep...there's always been animosity coming from the more traditional programs towards Miami. And those traditional programs do the same sh*t.

SEC, Big 10 schools always looked down upon Miami because they never really had a conference but they always got the best players.

And a lot of their fans and players are complete ghetto a$$ criminals and they act like it on and off the field. UM players and fans are by far the biggest assholes that I've dealt with in 20 years of being in the bar biz. If you act like a scumbag hoodrat all the time a lot of people are going to dislike you and be happy when you fail.

Miami was just a late developing football program... the team has only been significant since the late 70's. A lot of the animosity stems from the teams they put together in the 80's and 90's that reflected Miami. They were the first team to go in and recruit the poorest, toughest kids in the ghetto, and they essentially just let them loose. I'd be hard pressed to find one school in the SEC that wasn't guilty of paying players and improper benefits - we've all seen what boosters can be like down there and how they live and die by their football programs. The SEC in particular is the pet conference of the NCAA and generally escapes most of the scandals with little publicity and punishment.

It's always been easy to blame Miami based on their reputation in the 80's. People still call us Thug U, even though we boasted a top 10 APR (up there with Duke, Stanford, etc) and had I think 2 arrests on the football team over the last 5 years, while a team like Florida had something like 30 or 40 in the same time period.

UM suffers from the same problems as all South Florida sports - fair weather fans. It's the same reason why the Jets have more fans at Dolphins games than the fish do. I've seen my fair share of bad fans but I highly doubt the players are any different than those from other schools. There's a reason South Florida is the most highly coveted recruiting ground in the country. Schools all over the country would take these players on their teams with open arms - and they do.

Trust me UM players are a lot worse then players from other schools I've dealt with, it might be because this is their backyard so they feel they can do whatever they want and get away with it or it could be the type of player that UM is recruiting.

Miami, Ohio State, Oregon..... Doesn't matter. All this proves is that NCAA only cares about $$. Yahoo! Sports spent a year on this story and the NCAA had no clue? I doubt it.

Miami won't get the death penalty. They will lose some scholarships and be banned from some crappy bowl games.

all the schools are filthy dirty. the NCAA should let these men take money for the job they do and be done with all this bull crap.

The idea of paying a college player is retarded. It's not going to stop booster from doing what they do on top of raising the price of tickets and merchandise that we have to pay. The kids are already getting a free ride to a major college. Free education, food, housing, medical, travel, etc. And where does it end? Do you pay the girls softball team, debate teams, cheerleaders, etc?

It's not like these players are getting in trouble for trying to put food on their families tables. They were out partying, drinking, ******* escorts, getting fancy clothes and gold, eating at expensive restaurants and sh*t like that.

I don't feel sorry for them at all, they're getting a great education (if they'd take it) for free cause they can play a sport.

This guy came out about a year ago saying he was going to write a book about it - he wants to use the proceeds of the book to raise part of the 90 million or so he's required to pay back to the people he stole money from. He has every reason to lie and exaggerate for the purpose of making more money - this guy has a history of lying to benefit himself financially... no reason why he would stop now. On the other hand, the NCAA has been investigating for 5 months already or so they say. We'll see what happens with their investigation.

I agree that they won't get the death penalty. There was rampant sensationalism in that Yahoo article and I think when the dust settles Miami will have a few players implicated but almost exclusively guys who are long gone and/or coaches/administrators no longer associated with the program.

I 100% agree that Nevin Shapiro is a POS but the Yahoo! Sports article has a ton of quotes from former players backing up his claims. I think Shapiro is a POS but it is what it is.

I think any rational college football fan will readily admit that this type of stuff goes on at every "big-time" football program. I have no problem with this as I know what college football is all about.

As you said I hope the NCAA doesn't punish the players who had nothing to do with this.

I think the worst part of everything is that the team wasn't even any freaking good while this was going on. I don't see how the NCAA can punish Miami without punishing the players/coaches currently on the team. According to what I've been reading Randy Shannon (former HC) was fighting pretty hard to keep this guy away from the program to the point where Shapiro was visibly upset on many occasions. I don't know what it means but the violations during the Larry Coker years seem way worse than after RS took over. Coker was the worst thing to happen to Miami football.

Coker was a clown. The thing that stood out to me in the article was that a drunk Shapiro confronted the compliance officer in the press box at the Orange Bowl (Stadium, not Bowl game) and no one said anything.

Miami will be fine as the ACC is horrible and the NCAA wants nothing to do with diminishing one of the BCS Conferences biggest teams.

Especially if any of those rumors of FSU bolting for the SEC are true. The ACC needs Miami. Miami games are still among the most watched nationally televised too. I know that doesn't excuse what happened but it has to factor into the decision.

Yep. Virgina Tech may be good but they don't have the national drawing power that Miami does. Miami is the ACC. BC, Clemson, Virgina, NC State, etc lol.

FSU has probably been doing the same thing as Miami but Tallahassee is no Miami when it comes to debauchery.

FSU and UF both benefit from the location of their campuses as far as secrecy goes.

In the smaller towns its not uncommon for things to get swept under the rug. The schools themselves make up a proportionally greater influence in their respective cities.

Gainesville and Tally get nowhere near theattention as Miami to begin with and if the school doesn't prosper neither does the town.
