The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released free safety Tanard Jackson on Tuesday morning due to a failed physical according to buccaneers.com. Jackson recently underwent shoulder surgery but was expected to be ready to return by June.

Speculation is that Jackson was released due to his troubled history off the field as much as his injury. He was suspended for all of 2010 and the first five games of 2011 due to multiple violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy. Upon return in Week 6 last year, he struggled both in coverage and against the run.

Still only 26, Jackson should have little trouble finding a new team but should expect an incentives-laden contract.

Had some tackling issues last year. Very good Free Safety and still young.

Edit: Also, as a side note. No way Bucs go offense in the first round. They need atleast one CB (if Talib stays out of prison two) both safeties and all LB's.
