Josh Baker Done For The Season With Knee Injury

Jets TE/FB Josh Baker sustained a season ending knee injury in last night’s preseason game with the Carolina Panthers:

The Daily News has learned that TE Josh Baker is believed to have suffered at least a torn right ACL that will sideline him for the season. Baker is having a MRI on Monday morning to confirm the diagnosis.

Source: Manish Metha / NY Daily News

Baker was looking to have an increased role with the offense this season as he was capable of playing in the backfield or up close to the line, the h-back position.  The Jets will be searching other team’s cuts to add depth as they are thin at TE and FB.  The Jets even started using LB Nick Bellore at the FB spot during portions of practice.

UPDATE:  The Jets have waived/injured Baker so once he clears waivers Baker will be put on season ending reserved/injured (IR).

If he was waived/injured, the Pats will probably snatch him up and play him next year like the Giants' TE they scooped up. They're going to revolutionize the game by going for that no-back, no-WR, 5-TE alignment on all downs.

Nah, NY Jets TEs and QBs are bottom barrel practice squad types.

Shancoe will likely be cut.

Hope so...that would be a wise pick up for the Jets.

Sucks to hear about Baker. Season ending in the preseason...sh*t sucks. 3 years in a row thats happened to the Jets. Ropati, Turner and now Baker, all guys who could have helped the roster too.

It really happens to every team. As much as it sucks to say, the Jets have to feel kind of lucky that it's happened to the guys that it has. In recent years, it's only been backup guys and none of their important starters. Imagine if Mangold was knocked out for the year in the preseason? Holy crap, that'd be a disaster.

Yeah but Turner ended up killing us because we didnt have the necessary depth when Mangold got banged up. He was the all purpose back-up.

Baker hurts too because we have zero depth at TE. And if Keller's injury is serious at all, we're going to be really thin at TE.

Oh yeah, won't disagree with that, but those issues have more to do with the Jets poor depth than the vital nature of those particular players to the team. I'm just saying, there's a lot of teams out there who have gotten it a lot worse in the preseason than the Jets.

Actually probably can;t cover neither one of them. LOL BUT... he can make it very painful to come across the middle. All it take is a second of hesitation to turn an easy catch into a miss.

Theres many ways to skin a cat and I wouldnt look for Gronk to have the season that he has last year.

Every team in the NFL will be trying to stop him.

I really like the way our DL is looking too. Don't think Brady is going to have much time back there,

And I like this whole idea of quoting a person's post and entering a reply that has nothing to do with the quoted post. Might steal that from you.
