Agreed. Dansby can probably be signed to a one year deal (maybe a two year, where he could painlessly be released next year if they wanted to do so). That would allow them to concentrate on QB, O-Line, and a pass rusher early in this draft. If they can find an ILB with a late pick, then great. If not, address it next year.

Most every draft should be focused on the highest paying positions first. So, whatever Mac can do to support that philosophy in FA, is best. Like: rebuilding the entire RB corps with established players.

RBs don't get paid sh*t. The idea of the rookie pay scale is to get high-demand positions filled with good young talent... cheaply. Meaning: you'd almost never seem me drafting RB, TE, ILB, OG, S, in the first round... maybe if they are absolutely special talents, sure... but otherwise, no way.

QB, WR, LT, CB, OLB, DE, DT are the positions that yield the highest pay days, therefore they should be the focus of the draft more often than not.

This. Provided they can still play at a high level, there's nothing wrong with having older guys in some spots, until you can replace them with younger players. Just don't sign them to multi-year contracts.

Or do, but make them that "team option" BS that NE did with Revis. So if we cut someone that another team is willing to sign for more than the vet minimum, we get comp pick credit for cutting a player.

Older players like Dansby excel on good teams. You still have to have something to play for in this game or it becomes redundant. Say what you will but the Jets were a fun & entertaining team last year vying for a playoff spot. 10-6 is usually a playoff year. Jets won't be an easy out for any team next year.  I'm all for stop gap vets as long as it does not affect the cap the following year.

Plug & play. The Pats do this every year, guys like Sheard ect.

As long as we get Fitz back. Geno and Petty and RG3 don't make us a tough out

Sheard was a very good signing.

When you choose to play on a team that vies for the playoffs, you get exposed quickly for dogging it. These guys are elite athletes that would not be where they are today without being confident. But, there are organizations where it's too easy to stand out if your not doing your part. The Pats are one of those teams. They'll cut bait pretty quickly, you don't get chance after chance. Last year it was Lafell (see ya!).

Your starting to see that now with Mac. The old Jet regime would have re-upped Damario Davis. Not Mac, see ya DD. How many players were rewarded over the years with the Jets for average play?  Look at how it's playing out with Fitzy. All of us Jet fans want him back but not if his contract will impact 2017 & 2018, when we're looking to replace him anyway.

We were all excited getting a new GM in here & most because our past drafts have just been out right putrid. That list from 2012 gives you a great idea why we have no depth & our special teams are with the worst in the league. But we still have fans that want to sign every FA that gets let go? This guy doesn't shoot from the hip, he's very detailed & meticulous about his decisions. No one gets them all right but even with no cap room he's upgraded RB to better fit our OC, grabbed 2 hard working Dlineman in Jarvis & McLendon, took a flyer on Dri Archer for STs, and I'm sure we'll see more moves & I'm excited to see what they do in the draft.
