SNY OTA's coverage. Eric Coleman on Geno Smith

Until the Jets pull the offer off the table to Fitzpatrick then Geno is the backup the moment that Fitz signs on the dotted line.  That tells us everything we need to know about where Geno stands with respect to Fitz in the minds of the Jets brains trust.

Fitz is better.  At least seven million dollars per year better because they are willing to pay at least seven million extra dollars to get Fitz back into uniform to be the starter.  At least seven million.

If Fitz is average then Geno is worse than average. If Fitz is bad then Geno is worse than bad.  If Fitz is terrible then Geno is worse than terrible and so on.

Maybe only five million better if you want to make the argument that the team needs a warm body at QB and Hoyer (or some such) would cost at least two million to provide the warm body.

I think that we should only talk about who's better officially once he officially signs.

The people whose job depends on making the right choices have voted on this issue and that vote stands until or unless they withdraw the offer.

Whatever that means.

When said player is in a Jets uniform then it is what it is.

It means that now the Geno haters have 2 reasons they hope that Fitz signs.

The stupid "he's 7 million times better" nonsense is catching on with them though.

They can think he's seven million dollars better all they want, that doesn't mean that they're right about that.  If there's serious starter money beyond the first year I'm going to take a guess and say that by the end of this season Jets fans are going to to be real pissed and this whole "Fitzy is here to save us from big bad Geno" is gonna change reeeeal quickly.
