Practice observations:
This was the Patriots’ worst practice of camp from an execution standpoint, and the pair of injuries to significant players didn’t help the mood. The eight drops during team drills were the most glaring problem, and Josh McDaniels didn’t take kindly to it during an offensive meeting at the end of the workout.

Tom Brady was 11 of 19 with an interception, and he was burnt by two drops. His interception went to defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins on a screen pass, so that was a bizarre breakdown.

Jimmy Garoppolo was 10 of 22 with an interception, but he was sabotaged by six drops. We’ve drawn attention to Garoppolo’s dip since Friday, but we also can’t stress enough that he hasn’t gotten a lot of help along the way, whether it’s because of drops, poor line play or whatever. Garoppolo’s interception occurred because he led Aaron Dobson too far to the inside, and Da’Vante Harris picked it off. Dobson tried to rip the ball from Harris’ hands after, but to no avail.

Garoppolo dipped into his early-camp magic with a touchdown pass to Chris Harper in 11-on-11s. The pass rush closed the pocket, so Garoppolo stepped up, kept his eyes downfield and delivered a confident strike to Harper for the score. Nicely done.

Brady led off the first four periods of team drills, and Garoppolo led off the final two. The first QB used the starting line, while the second QB worked with the backups. With the exception of a few plays, both played against the Saints’ starting defense.

The culprits of the drops were Rob Gronkowski (two), Chris Hogan (two), Aaron Dobson (one), James White (one), Chris Harper (one) and Brandon Bolden (one). Bolden’s drop occurred in the end zone and one play after he nearly dropped another ball. Gronk now has a team-high seven drops in 11 practices.

Brady completed passes to James White (three), Chris Hogan (two), Brandon Bolden (two), Tyler Gaffney (one), James Develin (one), Rob Gronkowski (one) and Martellus Bennett (one).

Garoppolo completed passes to Aaron Dobson (two), LeGarrette Blount (two), Chris Harper (two), Gronkowski (one), Hogan (one), White (one) and Bolden (one).

Jacoby Brissett was 4 of 7 during the final period of practice. He completed balls to AJ Derby (two), Devin Lucien (one) and Steven Scheu (one). His first pass should’ve been picked by Dillon Lee.

Brandin Cooks got the better of Malcolm Butler for most of the day. They lined up almost exclusively during practice in 1-on-1s and team drills.

Edelman juked Vonn Bell out of his shorts on a double move in 1-on-1s a couple minutes before he left the field with the injury.

Bill Belichick and the coaches wore white T-shirts with “USA” on the front and “Ebner” and his No. 12 on the back to support Nate Ebner’s first rugby game in the Olympics — a 17-14 loss to Argentina.

Bills defense might get in the way of that

Slapdick team.

They hired Rob Ryan... have you seen what Rob Ryan defenses let QBs do to them the past few years?

They should have kept Jim Schwartz.

Doesn't look like that today.

homerism aside,

these 2 teams are about the same, neither is that superior to the other and will be battling it out if the Pats slide down

When you break down the division I think the Jets have the most "Star Players" across the board. Revis, Mo, Sheldon, Leo, Forte, Marshall, Decker. They also have Pryor who might make a name for himself this year. But the biggest thing Macc did was add depth. Jets are a deep team right now except at Oline.

You look at our losses in the AFC east last year, 2 to Buffalo & 1 to the Pats. The Bills losses are squarely on Turnovers. Jets beat them each time without 5 TOs. I'm sure that's been Bowles directive this year, protect the ball. Bills got lucking in our 1st game, they fumbled 3 times & recovered all 3! With our added speed at LB that probably won't ever happen again.

This division is wide open. The 4 game suspension of Brady helps, but honestly I feel the same as you, and that the Jets have the best collection of talent in the division. The Patriots have by far the best QB and cheating on their side, but I still think the Jets can win this division. I felt like they had enough talent along with an easy schedule to do it last year. If the Jets win the games they're supposed to win as well as beating some of these playoff teams (since we should be a playoff caliber team) then I fully expect the Jets to dethrone the patriots division reign.

Actually, the lost chance at a fumble recovery that burns the most was the play in the first New England game when Brady fumbled, was laying on the ground with defensive players around him and one of his offensive linemen inadvertently and unknowingly kicked the ball directly into his arms. That was the game if we recover that.
