Jets sign Josh Andrews (Colts O Line)

Just wanted to bump this and bring attention back to Josh Andrews who I think is a high quality backup.  The Jets risked losing him but tap-danced around the cut/waiver process this year to get him back.  He's on the 53 now.

A reminder of how he got here.... a very talented Colts OLine still wanted him back.

Report: Colts expressing interest in re-signing OL Josh Andrews

March 11, 2020 2:35 pm ET

While the starting five for the Indianapolis Colts offensive line is as talented as it gets, the depth in the room is an area they are likely looking to improve. In doing so, they have reportedly expressed interesting in retaining interior offensive lineman Josh Andrews.

Mostly working as the backup center behind Pro Bowler Ryan Kelly, Andrews also has experience working at right guard for the Colts. He wasn’t needed as much given that all five starting offensive linemen played over 1,000 snaps during the regular season.

But the Colts are having discussions about bringing Andrews back, per Jim Ayello of Indy Star.

Andrews is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The Colts don’t have much in the way of depth on the offensive line, and they are set to lose Joe Haeg and Le’Raven Clark to free agency as well if they don’t re-sign one or both.

Andrews has experience working with the blocking schemes for the Colts. He worked behind Kelly all during the 2019 season and can be moved to other spots on the interior if need be.

The legal tampering period begins Monday, March 16, and Andrews will officially become a free agent on Wednesday afternoon if he isn’t re-signed.

Former Colts C Josh Andrews Reportedly Agrees To Free Agent Deal With Jets

Center Josh Andrews, who spent the last two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, today agreed to terns to sign a free agent deal with the New York Jets, agent Brett Tessler announced.

INDIANAPOLIS — Center Josh Andrews, who spent the last two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, today agreed to terms to sign a free agent deal with the New York Jets, agent Brett Tessler announced.

Andrews, 28, played in parts of nine games with the Colts over the past two seasons at both center and guard.

He played 61 offensive and five special teams snaps in 2019; his most action came Week 9 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he logged 49 offensive snaps filling in at center for an injured Ryan Kelly.

With Andrews' departure, the Colts will continue to work to find the right depth along their offensive line. While all five starters up front — Anthony Castonzo (left tackle), Quenton Nelson (left guard), Kelly (center), Mark Glowinski (right guard) and Braden Smith (right tackle) — are set to return in 2020 for a third straight season, the backup center job appears to be up for grabs.

Javon Patterson, who was selected in the seventh round of last year's NFL Draft, suffered a season-ending ACL injury last offseason but could very well be in the running for that spot.

Other interior offensive linemen competing for spots on the 53-man roster this offseason for the Colts currently include Le'Raven Clark, Jake Eldrenkamp and Chaz Green.
