shawn306
Here is where everything is at Big games tonight are. If either the Caps or the Red Wings win then Pittsburgh and Philly are dead Wednesday - Islanders have nothing to play for they are locked in against Carolina. My feeling is Detroit who had a massive comeback win against Montreal last night will beat them again tonight and eliminate both Pittsburgh and Philly. I am not sure what the first tie breaker is if the Caps and Wings both win tonight.

I am not sure what the first tie breaker is if the Caps and Wings both win tonight. While watching the Caps game last night the commentators were saying that if the Caps win both games in any form that they are in the playoffs so while I am not sure which specific tiebreaker it is, the Caps look like our likely opponent this weekend. <edited to add> Caps have the head to head tiebreaker over Detroit. Personally I would love to see a Rangers Vs. Capitals matchup. We can run into issues with teams like Detroit who have the ability to put up goals in bunches. Even though that is not how playoffs games tend to work I would much rather face a more conventional opponent like the Capitals. Maybe I am just channeling how the Devils knocked us off last year. Last year's Devils were another team who could score in bunches. They suddenly discovered defensive discipline mid-series against us and we had no good answers. Hurricanes Vs. Islanders. Hopefully they beat each other up a bit. Or maybe even more than a bit.

I have no idea what #1 means I am guessing that number one must cover situations where a complete schedule is not possible. It may be in there for things like COVID. I guess the same number of points in fewer games makes sense. Specific to our current situation the Capitals have 31 wins in regulation and Detroit has 27

shawn306
Detroit ties the game with 3 seconds left. Torts inexplicably pulls the goalie with three minutes left in a 1-1 and the Caps immediately score

The cup team of '94 was more impressive. It's easier now to get both wins and points with the 3v3 overtime and the shootout.

Yes, but Detroit had already eliminated Philly by getting a point for the tie at the end of regulation. Flyers gave the Caps a gift. Detroit won in OT. If Philly wins that game, then the Red Wings would have gotten in.
shawn306
I don't think the Red Wings tying the game had gotten to Philly. I was flipping between both games and litterally the moment the Wings scored to tie the game I flipped over to the Flyers game and Torts had pulled the goalie

He knew what it took for them to get in and that's what he tried to do.

Two of those years, we were #1 seeds and lost in the first td to Ottawa and the Mario less and pre Crosby Pens. Been there, done that. I admit, I have no love lost for the Rangers, but I actively hate the Caps and Flyers and would root for North Korea over them. Definitely rooting for Rangers here.

Hopefully the Rangers can make quick work of the Caps while the other 6 teams destroy eachother.
TBJ
The New York Rangers Are in Pole Position for the Cup. That’s What’s So Unsettling. It’s been 30 years since the team won a Stanley Cup, and the last decade in particular has been full of almosts. Now, after winning the Presidents’ Trophy, it’s time to prove that this year will be different. https://www.theringer.com/nhl/2024/4/19/24134342/new-york-rangers-nhl-playoffs-preview-stanley-cup
EM31
Islanders got hosed on as couple of those penalty calls tonight. Freddy Anderson was great but I think NY was the better team most of the game.
