So, who do you think the Sawx will trade for?

No one.

When youve got 134 starters in the rotation who needs offense?

Not the Sox.

I say they probably let Brad Penny go for Pujols, but that might be giving up too much to Theo..so they'd probably have to throw Chris Carpenter along with that deal.

It's obvious they need a bat.

I'm thinking Nick Johnson

With Bay coming back to reality, and Ortiz certainly taking a step or two back, they'll have to make a move

Lowrie will help though

Lowrie is a light bat. Johnson or Zimmerman from the Nats would be nice.

You really need a bat

I hope you don't get Matt Holliday...

There is a need for a bat, sure. Who out there on the market is an upgrade right now over what the Sox currently have? Not much.

Holliday might be a guy who could benefit from the Monster a la Mike Lowell. He sure isn't benefitting from playing outside of Coors.

Your concern for the Boston Red Sox is very touching. God Bless you Jon. :P

Agreed. Funny thing is that the Red Sox DO have the ammo to make a move if they wanted to. There were rumours about going after Jose Reyes from the Mets. I don't know how much of an upgrade that would be.

Over Lugo and Lowrie? Pretty damn huge.

If the Sox got Reyes it'd make the top of their order pretty scary with a leadoff man like that. Considering the type of ball you guys play, I don't like the move in the sense it makes me think they're better.

Lugo isn't a Sox anymore, but he would be an upgrade. Especially in the headache department. :D

I know the Sox DFA'd him. He was one of the worst, if not the worst fielders in the league

and he beats his wife.

I heard a rumour the Mets were working him out at one of their facilities the the DR. Just waiting till they could offer him a new contract.

Reyes gets hurt a lot. You're no good for the team if you're on the DL.

I don't think that's a fair assessment of Reyes. You're making him out to be JD Drew. Reyes had some leg issues his first couple of years but the last 3 years prior to this one, he has played in as many games as anyone.

They could USE a bat, I don't think they NEED a bat. There is no room for Holliday, and other than Mike Young (whose contract will not have him come) I don't see a move happening.

They are top of the division, look the best team in the AL right now, so I think they will sit put. It is a little slump, but no need for a knee-jerk reaction.

The Sawx are a nice litttle team, but you;re nuts if you think you have no room for Doc or a bat

If bringing in Halladay meant losing Buchholz and more, I'd tell the Jays have a nice day. Halladay has thrown a lot of innings and is no spring chicken.

A decent bat off the bench would be fine, but there is nothing out there that is an upgrade right now.

A lefty specialist out of the pen would be very nice though.

Don't expect a big move by the Sox

From the Globe's Adam Kilgore: With no obvious need on his roster and no prominent problems in the clubhouse (remember last year?), general manager Theo Epstein intimated yesterday the Red Sox will have a mostly quiet trade deadline. The two weeks between the All-Star break and July 31 is typically the most active dealing period of the year. The Red Sox under Epstein have proven to be creative and thorough, but any moves will not likely be headline stealers. Rather, Epstein said, the Sox will try to add depth, as they did last season in acquiring Mark Kotsay in August.

Good news.

I heard somewhere that the Sox' team OPS has dropped every month. I think they're in need of a bat.

At what position? SS could be upgraded, but there is a ton of money sunk into that position already that isn't even being utilized and there isn't that much out there that is worth trading young guns for at that position.

Buchholtz was one of the names mentioned in the Jose Reyes to the Red Sox rumours.

Sox trade for Adam LaRoche

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Red Sox have acquired lefthanded-hitting first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The report, written by Dejan Kovacevic, does not indicate who the Red Sox are sending to Pittsburgh in return.

If the report is accurate, the 29-year-old six-year veteran is an intriguing pickup for the Red Sox, who have surprisingly struggled against righthanded hitting this season. LaRoche is batting .247 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs this season, but he has never had a full-season adjusted OPS below 100, and he's one of the most notorious second-half hitters in baseball. His career OPS after the All-Star break is .901.

He's hit more the 20 homers in four of his five full seasons, with his career-high of 32 coming in 2006 while he was with the Atlanta Braves. LaRoche, the son of former lefthander Dave LaRoche, was in his third season with Pittsburgh.
