Braylon Edwards signs with 49ERS

Yeah, it's too early to call. Whether this is an upgrade or a downgrade is going to have to be determined in hindsight. This is being painted as Edwards at his best and Cotchery of 5 years ago vs has-been Plaxico and has-been Mason. It's Braylon Edwards a fart away from missing 1/4 of the season and Cotchery who may miss the entire month of August camp/practice in an already-abbreviated pre-season.

Also I think Plaxico is a safer bet to behave himself for a full season after what he went through. My opinion anyway.

None of these 4 WRs are sure things to do anything.

I dont know. I think Plax is going to be fine. 80% of him is 100% of Edwards. Mason is better than Cotch. I'm not worried about Plax for some reason. He's apparently been staying in shape. If Mike Williams can make it back to the league, then Plax should have no issues.

Holmes long term, Plex and Mason on fliers. I'm sure WR will be a priority in the draft. It makes sense, they'll be cheaper moving forward and we have a lot of money invested in our core...Sanchez, Revis, Mangold, DBrick, Harris, Cro, Holmes...all young talent in their prime. It fits their philosophy too.

I think the Jets offense is going to be pretty nasty this season. Assuming Sanchez takes a leap forward.

WR hasn't been a draft priority for the Jets since taking Santana Moss in the first round in 2001, so I have my doubts about it being a priority next year.

I'm in wait & see mode right now. I believe Plax and Mason are capable of performing, but old guys get hurt more and stay hurt longer. It's not an ideal situation.

I hope Kerley is the sh*t.

This wasn't about $$$ for the Jets.

Regardless of what Rex says in terms of wanting him back, Braylon was Kerry Rhodes-lite.

Rex wants guys that have 100 percent devotion to the football field. Braylon was only at about 75 percent.

Except Braylon is actually a good football player for Rex, Rhodes wasn't.

What the hell is Tanny doing? He better have something up his sleeve.

He's low balling Ellis, cuts Cotchery, is about to sign an ancient dinosaur, lets Edwards sign with San Fran for 1 yr/$3.5 mil, and reportedly we are $9 million under the cap. WTF is going on?

He's running a business, not happy-fun-time play camp where everyone gets to play and receives whatever they want. You have to understand that he and Rex are doing what they feel is in the teams' best interest. DO you really think Tanny would release players and not sign others if Rex wasn't 100% behind the move??

I get that so many people see Tanny as the face of all the moves that are made, but these moves do not happen if Rex is vehemently opposed. That's a fact.

Good for him, I guess. Not a terrific situation. Alex Smith is still completely enigmatic. I guess if that offense breaks out this year, Braylon will get credit. Seems like a lot to ask for that offense to break out, though. If he's third in catches behind Davis and Crabtree, that won't necessarily be good for him, either.

I could see wanting a change of scenery along with a pay cut, too. The guy is immature.

His best situation may have been somewhere else still, but that the pay cut was even greater. It's not my life so it matters not to me.

It is yet to be determined that Burress is a downgrade from Edwards or that Mason is a downgrade from Cotchery.

Braylon is now old news but come playoff time when our old god damn men are worn out just remember how freakin stupid we were when it came to getting Sanchez some real weapons not FREAKIN castoffs. This is epic fail. Sorry but this is not what we needed to do to improve and get to a SB this is a stupid gamble with a team right on the brink. DUMB

Its not weather or not they are a down grade its weather or not they hold up. Thats a stupid gamble for a SB caliber team to make

It's like some of guys didn't watch the season last year. Edwards played outstanding and made just about as many great plays as Holmes

Well hes gone now so no use talking about him anymore. Im dissapointed because if the Jets really didnt want Braylon WTF were they doing when other WR's were available ? They had there head up Nnamdis freakin a$$.

If they don't hold up it will be a downgrade. I liked him plenty but for the record, Cotchery didn't hold up - this year or last year - and Mason did. Mason hasn't missed a game since 2002. Cotchery gets injured just about every season.

Plaxico does have some injury history. We'll see if there's more of that for us or if he is taking better care of himself now. Hope it works out for us, because as much as I'm not killing our WR situation now I would have been just fine with Edwards returning if he could have been had for similar money.

Fwiw on the bright side, if had a pick of Plex or BE as a one year rental I'm taking Plex. BE's appeal and value was that he was younger and had more years to play at a high level. If I'm picking one guy for 2011 only I would have taken Plex anyway. So there's that.

Pass rusher or WR next season, for sure.

But I'm not worried at all. I think Plax and Holmes are going to be sick. Mason is an upgrade over Cotch. I really like Kerley, hope he doesnt let me down.

NO WAY IN HELL. Plax hasnt played football in 2 years. Braylon carried us through the playoffs last season. The problem with most of you is you live life on the "what have you done for me lately" track.

WORST news Ive heard as a NYJETS fan in years............ GOOD LUCK BRAYLON EDWARDS IN SAN FRAN.........

Whats the plan here? Randy Moss or T.O or is Don Maynard willing to play for nothing?

Dude, **** THAT!!! Guy's total douche. I just wanted him for selfish reasons, to catch TD's. I have zero fan loyalty for a guy like that. He can go screw now for all I care. Cotch on the other I wish well.

That's insane if you ask me. We KNOW Edwards can still play, we don't know that about Burress.

By far the most absurd statement you have ever made.

Selfish? He played his a$$ off for this team. Losing him and Cotchery have weakened the WR corps.

Absolute terrible job by Tanny. No other way around it. Anyone who thinks Braylon wouldn't have signed the same one year deal with the Jets is clueless. Alex Smith is a weak armed, west coast QB. You think that's good for a WR who excels down the field.

Sanchez needs as many weapons as possible.

Awful Tanny. Awful.

Agreed Rex and his manlove for all these wayward bound Ravens needs to end. Mason is sh*t.

This is very disturbing.

Everyone keeps on saying that in order to take the next step Sanchez has to break out. Look at the tools they are giving him.

They let Edwards walk over .5 million? This is weird.

I think Bellichick has pics of Mike T kissing Mrs Ryans feet. Maybe we are going to pay our WR's in Viagra instead of cap money

Or look at it this way. They have 3 - #1 WR's, 3 - 1,000 yard WR's, and 2 WR's who've caught game winning SB TD's.

As much as I always liked Cotchery and still do, Mason was plenty better than Cotchery last year plus Cotchery's less reliable health-wise and is already on the PUP following surgery on his friggin' back.

Cotchery is less reliable than Mason. He hasn't had a 900-yard season since 2007. He's caught more than 3 TD's in a season once in the last 4 years (a whopping 5 in 2008). "sh*t" Mason has 7 TD's each of the last 2 years. Cotchery's never accomplished that once in his career.

As I said, I liked him plenty, but you're overrating him a tad. Enlighten us on what you think Cotchery does better than Mason right now.

Id rather Braylon Edwards than Derrick Mason, Cotchery was a #3 here I dont like the way he was treated. Now if they trade for DeSean Jackson thats a different story.
