Merged: Baumer's Theory On The Home Opener

Please understand that this is just speculation:

With the Superdome, Airport & all buildings not being able to have repairs completed until December due to the flooding & damages caused by the recent hurricane, The Giants game Vs the Saints may wind up at the Meadowlands on the SAME DAY as our Miami Opener - September 18, 2005.

Since this is an AFC East game, the NFL may in fact have us Switch with the December 18, 2005 date in order to make room for New Orleans' schedule.

Just a thought...

Too much money involved to make the Jets switch. No way that happens.

The Giants can play N.O. on a high school field somewhere.

Not true, the Chargers had to move a few years ago due to Wildfires and switch their dates from away to home.

Wouldn't be a problem ticketwize because the same ticket would be accepted on the new day.

Besides, the Giants are scheduled to play the chiefs at home on Saturday, December 17 - the stadium space is open on that Sunday...

Yes but that was a different situation. The Jets stadium is ready to roll on that day.

By moving the Jets you are taking one problem and turning it into two problems.

No way would the NFL do that.

It really doesn't matter, I just checked & the Marlins are closing a 3-day set with the Phillies that weekend in Miami.

The Saints may in fact move to the ALAMO DOME in San Antonio that weekend - a site that their owner has been contemplating over MOVING the team to anyway...

And Troll, give them a break!

How would you feel if your home was devistated by a hurricane?

i love the term "may, in fact, blahblahblah". it's pure propaganda - it covers anything.

i may, in fact, not be me. the jets may, in fact, be the 6 time defending superbowl champs. baumer may, in fact, be the worst poster on this board. he is, in fact, definitely off his rocker.

Yeah, "I MAY IN FACT" be off my rocker. Right now I'm dining with Napoleon, A spaceman & Hamlet.

We're having Turkey Chili and dancing against the pale moon light. All the while reading the works of Kurt Vonnegut JR.

None of us can believe that they are going to knock us out of the running as season ticket holders due to an outrageous PSL!

Oh, wait, I have to go - "IT'S MEDICATION TIME!" [-X:mrgreen:

In reality, the reason I posted this is because I've been effected by the visions of so much carnage in a city I quite enjoyed going to a few years ago...

& as I checked out, the Saints owner may in fact put them in the ALAMO DOME instead for their opener & possibly the ENTIRE '05 season...

That's why I posted them on both sites & on both forums on this site - so someone would respond...

- BESIDES -

I'm going stir crazy waiting for this season to open already!

Congratulations!

That is the first time someone has taken a thread about a hurricane in the South and turned it into FUD about the stadium.

Wow, that was impressive.

Difference is SD didn't share a field with another team. They would not do that plus they could possibly just play at Tulane or Loyola or something

I may not have been totally out of my mind over this one:

Giants may host Saints week 2

BY GARY MYERS

New York Daily News

NEW YORK - (KRT) - The NFL is giving serious consideration to moving the Giants-Saints game the second week of the season to Giants Stadium as a result of the damage done to New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue admitted on Thursday the league believes the Saints may be unable to play at home this season.

George Zoffinger, the president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, sent a letter to Tagliabue and Giants vice president John Mara on Wednesday offering Giants Stadium on Monday night, Sept. 19, for the Giants-Saints game. The game is scheduled for Sept. 18 at the Superdome.

"I know it's under consideration," Mara said Thursday night. "But the league has not made a final decision."

The NFL is weighing all possibilities regarding a move of the game to Giants Stadium. It could be played on Saturday; as part of a day-night Sunday doubleheader with the Jets-Dolphins game; or on Monday night.

Moving the game to the New York area and putting it on in prime time would provide a high-profile platform to promote disaster-relief efforts. The scheduled Monday night game is Washington at Dallas, but there is a precedent for doubling up. In 1997, the Bears-Dolphins game in Miami was switched to a Monday night with the Marlins playing the seventh game of the World Series on Sunday. Considering the circumstances, the last thing the NFL is concerned about is any competitive advantage the Giants gain by having a ninth home game.

Tagliabue, in an interview on Thursday on CNBC, said, "At this point you have to proceed on the assumption, just a working assumption, that they may be unable to play in New Orleans for the entire season. If things evolve in a positive way, then that would be something we could adjust to. But our assumption is that for planning purposes we should assume that it will be difficult if not impossible to play in New Orleans at all this year."

Asked what the league is considering as alternatives for the Saints, he said there were three choices. "One would be to have the game played at the other team's location - in this case it would be Giants Stadium," he said. "The second would be in another NFL city. And the third would be in what we would call a neutral city."

Other sites mentioned include LSU in Baton Rouge, La., San Antonio and Houston, as well as Orlando and cities in Alabama and Mississippi. However, it might be too soon for the NFL to put a game in Baton Rouge, which is assisting in the recovery effort.

Bernard Spigner, the director of communications and external affairs at the Meadowlands, said the sports authority has not yet heard back from Tagliabue. "One thing is, we want to contribute," he said. "We know there are a lot of issues at hand that far exceed where an NFL game is played. We want to do what we can. This is something we can do."

He said the authority would ask employees to donate part of their compensation for working the game to the American Red Cross.

The Saints spent this week in San Jose, played in Oakland on Thursday night and were scheduled to fly after the game to set up camp in San Antonio with no indication when they could return to New Orleans. Their season opener is set for Sunday, Sept. 11 in Carolina.
