Aug 2 8/2/2012 10:59:41 AM

The Cleveland Browns have been sold by Randy Lerner to Jimmy Haslam for in excess of $1 billion, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN who cites league sources.

Jimmy Haslam is president and CEO of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Flying J, the largest operator of travel centers and travel plazas in North America with more than 550 retail locations. He is the older brother of Tennessee's Gov. Bill Haslam, who also worked for the family business before he was elected mayor of Knoxville in 2003 and again in 2007, then governor in 2010.

NFL Network reports former Philadelphia Eagles president Joe Banner will be part of Haslam's executive team.

He also has described himself as a "1,000 percent" Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

The Browns have been owned by the Lerner family since 1999, when the franchise was reborn after the original club moved to Baltimore.

Wow. That sucks for Browns fans... It has been shown that, with the right business model, owners can profit just fine owning a competitive sports franchise. Poor Browns fans will make the owners rich, for the promise of him keeping them in the AFC North basement, me thinks....

Not sure if srs.

Completely. The Steelers are one of those teams who've been so successful that their fans refuse to allow anyone else to get excited about anything.

"Well, it's a disappointment, but two straight AFC title games is pretty good."

"LOL YOU GUYS SUX WE MEASURE SUCCESS IN CHAMPIONSHIPS HERE IN BLITZBURGH"

"Man, what a season by Rodgers."

"CALL ME WHEN HE WINS 2 LIKE BIG BEN"

"I think Trent Richardson has a good shot at Offensive Rookie of the Year.:

"LOL WHO GIVES A sh*t THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS STILL OWNS YOUR ASS...LITERALLY"
